The space

Oyndarfjørður is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of a small Faroese village. And you surely cannot live better than in a summer house down on the beach - so close that you hear the waves, both when you fall asleep and when you wake up again in the morning.
Enjoy the panorama view over the bay.

The neighbouring island Kallsoynna and all the mountains around are breathtaking.
The summer house, called Bakkahúsini, was built in 1876 by our great grandfather.

The material used to build the house comes from a schooner called Primus which - filled with wood - grounded and wrecked in Árnafyrði on the island of Borðoy in October 1875.

Although some remodeling has tanken place through the ages, among other a modern bathroom with underfloor heating in 2010, we try to restore the house in a sound way to preserve and cherish the old original properties and soul of the house.
The nature around is magnificent and offers good opportunities for hobbies and experiences. Up in the valley over the village, there is a small lake, where you can fish trouts. And where the small river from the lake flows into the sea - 100 meters from the summer house - you can fish trouts and salmons.
It is also possible for you to go up in the mountains around the village. And if you are an advanced mountain hiker, you can also take the amazing trip to the neighbouring village Elduvík.

If you want to go jogging around Oyndarfirði, you can run a trip to the neighbouring village Hellurnar - about 4 km - on the other side of the bay.

There is only 25 km to the nearest big town Runavík and only 60 km to the capital Torshavn. The highest mountain - Slættaratindur (882m) - is less than a 30 km drive away.

One of the most wondrous natural phenomena in Oyndarfirði is Rinkusteinarnir - the rocking stones - two gigantic stones, which are rocking back and forth out in the deep sea - some few meters offshore. Rumour has it that the stones were two pirate ships set out to plunder the village, but an old woman called "Billa" transformed them into stones.

The house is built in 1876 and is in very good condition. We have tried to preserve the soul of the house and keep it in the good old style - such as it was when our ancestors lived there. We expect our guests to respect this old house and take care of it as if it were their own. To safeguard the old wooden floors, it is not allowed to go inside the house in shoes. Smoking and animals are not allowed inside the house.

We loved our stay in Oyndarfjørdur! Óli was the perfect host. Although we didn't get a chance to meet him in person, he was very responsive and helpful via email and texts. He ensured that every question we had was answered and even offered some suggestions on things to do while visiting the Faroe Islands. The house itself was very comfortable and clean. It has everything you can possibly need for an extended stay. If you're looking an authentic Faroese experience, I would forego the hotel and recommend staying here. Lovely experience.

We had a FANTASTIC stay at Oli's place! About Oli's house itself, it is exceptionnally located and - as described on Airbnb website - it is a very cosy place to stay. The house has all the commodities you could expect (and even more). It is also a family house with some history. Moreover, what I appreciated the most during our stay is Oli's sense of hospitality. Despite I arrived quite late in the evening, Oli was there to welcome me. He also spent more than an hour showing me the "must do" and giving me some tips to ease our stay. Furthermore, during our stay, Oli kept updating us about some events happening in the area. It was a perfect Holiday and - if one day I'm back to Faroes - I will definitly be back to Oli's house.

We had a perfect stay in Óli's house. It is located in a beautiful fjord 10 min away from the main road. The place is really quiet and peaceful, facing the amazing Kalsoy's Cliffs. The sun has been shining through the windows all day long and the terrace was a pretty good place for lunch. The key box was really convenient for late arrival. Óli has been really easy to reach every time we needed him and ready to help us in every way. The house is a traditionnal old house but the bathroom is brand new with heated floor probably very useful in winter. A really good choice to stay while traveling on the Faroes.

The house is in a great location on the waterfront at the centre of the old part of Oyndarfjordur. The village itself is very nice and unusually there is flat land along the quiet road for walking without hills. If you do want to go up some of the mountains, which you really should for the amazing views, Oli can give you recommendations. I went up the Skoratindur, just behind the village which takes about and hour and half to get up. You can also walk to Elduvik which is quite easy and again has great views. The house is even better than the description, its warm, with plenty of hot water, and is very well equipped with everything you'll need for your stay. It's immaculately clean with good quality bedding and towels and a great shower room. Oyndarfjordur is in a good location just over an hour to Torshavn and a similar time to the airport. It's only half an hour to Klaksvik and the north isles. Although I didn't meet Oli he's very accessible by phone or email and extremely helpful. I'd have no hesitation recommending this house and I hope to be back myself.

Óli and his wife are just the perfect hosts. The house was clean and warm, internet was working and even a cold beer was rdy! That's the perfect way to start into 14 days of recreation holidays. :) They can give you tips for hikings, restaurants, weather, .... And a lot of informations can also be found in the house itself like a roadmap, homepage-adresses, trip suggestions, ... He answers fast to all questions with phone or mail. The house don't have to be described. Everything is like what you expect except the kitchen... It offers a lot more equipment than you think. ;) i can just recommend them

Besides working... in my spare time I like being active - doing something... like carpentry, mountain hikes, boat trips, fishing, food, family cosiness, friends and giving foreigners the opportunity to see Faroe Islands - maybe the last paradise on earth ;-)
In 2016 I plan to finish the projekt of climbing all the 340 mountains on Faroe Islands (65 left to climb).
