Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Some info has been automatically translated.
Bring your loving vibes to this quiet peace community. Super-basic room, no frills, but a great location. Share bathroom. **Street parking only, sorry, and no laundry.**

Two friendly cats live here. You can close your door, but this won't work if you're allergic or don't want cats near you.

Because this is a great deal, you agree to be relaxed about the space. We leave clean sheets for you to make your own bed.

Black Lives Matter! LGBTQ+ friendly and affirming.

The space
Ultra simple room. I supply free earplugs and eye masks since there can be some lights and street noise from the fire house next door.

Guest access
There is a bus stop just steps from the house, and if you have the Citymapper app on your phone you can check the bus schedules to Dupont Circle, downtown, and GW and Sibley Hospitals. We are walking distance from Georgetown University Hospital.

Parking is NOT included. I recommend not bringing a car if you can. Laundry is also not included, because people are staying in the basement.

You can come to the main floor and use the kitchen. No big cooking, please, but it's okay to use the microwave, or heat up simple things. There is free coffee and tea, and you can find mugs, silverware, and small plates in the kitchen. There is a hot water dispenser, just hit "unlock" and then "dispense" to get water for tea or quick oats.

The refrigerator is OUTSIDE of the kitchen in the dining room, and there is a wooden cupboard in the dining room with more plates, cups, etc. It is fine for you to put food in the refrigerator.

During your stay
Be sure to BOOK AHEAD to get timed passes for the African-American Museum, Air and Space, the Washington Monument, etc. They run out! You can also contact your state senate offices to get passes if you can't get them online.

Also, the Kennedy Center has a FREE show every day at 6 p.m. You can check online for Millennium Stage to get free passes, but even if they say the show is full, you can go anyway and stand in the back. Sometimes there are no-shows and you can take their seats.

Restaurants and coffee places: Fun if you're new to DC, and all walking distance, try:

* The Tombs and Martin's Tavern for Georgetown History (Tombs has blah food sometimes, MT is better).
*Clyde's for a fun pub that's very local.
*1789 if money is not an issue and you want more upscale.
*La Bonne Vache for a good French bistro, although it gets crowded. Closed Monday AND Tuesday.
*Call Your Mother for bagels and bagel sandwiches.
*Taichi Bubble Tea for noodle bowls.
*Yellow and Villa Yara for middle eastern food (hint, if there's a line at Yellow when. you get there, you can grab a table and order online to pick up at the counter instead of waiting in line), and
*Tatte at Wisconsin and Q for coffee and pastries. I don't recommend Coffee Republic.
*Chaia for vegan and vegetarian tacos that taste amazing.
*Il Canale for Italian-American (red sauce classic).
*Divino for continental Italian (northern).
*Blossom Daily for coffee on M Street served with love by staff with developmental disabilities.
*Crumbs & Whiskers or Mèo Maison for a cat cafe (yes, Georgetown has two cat cafes).

Other things to note
The bathroom is usually shared with one other person. Please do not leave ANY of your things in the bathroom! You can keep all of your personal things in your room, and we provide a little carrying basket.

We welcome peaceful, kind, quiet people who don't have loud movies or music playing (quiet is fine). We ask that you bring positive talk, loving vibes, and gentle voices for our neighbors.

Neighbourhood highlights

Where to begin? Supreme Court Justice Breyer lives on our block, the late Madeleine Albright lived very close, as does John Kerry. Joe Biden goes to mass at nearby Holy Trinity when he's in DC, and one day his motorcade stopped at Call Your Mother, a bagel shop just three blocks away. I once saw Bill Clinton standing on the street corner and thought he was alone until I realized he was surrounded by plainclothes Secret Service.

Dumbarton Oaks is lovely, and just a 15-minute walk from here. Trader Joe's is a 10-minute walk, Safeway and CVS are 7 minutes, and Dent Place Market is pricier, but just steps away. We live next door to a 24/7 fire house, so you will feel super-safe because they are always around.

You are walking distance from restaurants, cafes, libraries (two major ones), research centers, a hospital, and even the Kennedy Center. This neighborhood has it all, and only thanks to you wonderful Airbnb-ers and the scholars who come through can I afford it.
