Large grade II family home, 8 bedrooms, 3 living rooms, dining room, great garden. Brilliant getaway for family or friends: plenty of room to fit people in, and of living spaces to get away from them! Easy reach of moors & beaches.
This is a large grade II listed family home with Tudor origins but Georgian and Victorian modernisation. It is ideal for families with young children (one cot and a baby basket available) and has a large garden with trampoline, a tree swing, woodland adventure course (for younger children).
The entire house and garden is available for you to use. The house is very much family home, so you should be able to find what you need. It has a 4 oven Aga, and we love cooking so there's plenty of crockery & cooking stuff, including bread machine, food processor etc. There's a fully stocked larder and loads of spices, which you are welcome to use if you need a bit of this or that, but if you use any substantial quantity of anything we'd be grateful if you replace it.
There are a bunch of the usual board games to suit all ages, plus playing cards, and a Carrom board.
There is one open fire and two log burners, which will all be laid when you arrive. You're welcome to use them and there will be wood, kindling and paper next to them. If you need any instruction just ask...
Outside there are plenty of garden chairs and tables, plus a croquet set, and a range of sports stuff like small football nets, cricket set, frisbee etc.
Interaction with guests
Someone will be around when you arrive to show you around and get you settled in. Plus there'll be someone around in the village to help out if you need it throughout your stay.
Other things to note
If you'd like we'd be really happy to arrange things to help make your stay that bit easier, such as arranging for dinner to be slow cooking in the Aga for your arrival, having everything you need for a slap up breakfast the next morning, sorting out some wines for your stay. Obviously these arrangements will come at an additional cost, but we're used to hosting lots of people, so will be very happy to help sort things out for you - just let us what you'd like.
Dukes is a family home and we expect you treat it as you would going to stay with friends. It'll be tidy and clean for your stay, but we're living in it with a young family, so our stuff will be around. We don't mind you using things (as described above) as long as you treat them with respect. If you do break something by mistake, please let us know and offer to replace it or pay for it.
The house is right in the centre of the village, so if you're wanting to dance late into the night in the garden, then this isn't the property for you. That's not to say that it's really restrictive in terms of noise. The house is detached and has thick walls, so normal level of noise for entertaining will not cause a problem. But we do ask that you keep the noise down outside once the neighbours are likely to have gone to bed.
The garden is a particularly nice feature, so please do take care of it. It's not really fussy, so no reason you should damage it, but just leave it like you find it.
