Description

Welcome to one of the most historic parts of Berkhamsted - the hilltop site of Old Berkhamsted Place, and the original Grade 2* listed barn which remains, reputedly, the largest medieval barn in the counties of Beds, Bucks & Herts. The Stables is a chic, spotless cottage for 2 with large gardens & parking, offering luxury linen & towels, wi-fi & TV. Ideal town/country position - 10mins walk to town centre with cafes, restos, boutiques and antique stores, and train to London is only 35mins!

'The Stables' is an idyllic bolt hole for a couple. Spacious bedroom with Kingsize bed prepared with crisp white linen and luxurious bath towels.
Bathroom with shower over bath and fully equipped kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and Illy coffee machine. Open plan light and airy lounge-dining room with TV, Wi-Fi and radio iPod/iPhone charger.

Access to terrace at the front, gardens at rear and parking.

The Stables is the curtilage of 'The Great Barn' where we live so we will host arrival of our guests and ensure that any food requests on arrival are catered for!

Berkhamsted is a buzzing traditional market town with trendy cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, boutique shopping and plenty of fab antique shops. Berkhamsted Castle ruins are worthy of a picnic stop and the restored art-deco Rex cinema is an absolute MUST visit for anyone coming to Berkhamsted. London Euston is just half an hour away on the train and it's perfect to be able to escape the city at the end of a busy day sight-seeing by coming back to the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Easy to walk everywhere once here, whether it be to and from the station (8min walk - 35mins into London), into town (10min walk) or into the countryside which is on the doorstep. Cycling is hugely popular around the Chiltern hills and villages (both on and off-road) and there's an excellent bike shop in town where you can hire bikes (even a tandom!)
Trips to historic Oxford and Cambridge are best done by car (an hour and hour and half respectively), and Bicester shopping outlet (45mins drive). Plenty of other places of historical interest in the area like Hatfield House, Luton Hoo, Waddesden Manor.

Sarah was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was incredible and the location perfect. The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need, even oils and a coffee machine. A very relaxing stay!

If you want to stay somewhere that is idyllic and restful yet just a short walk to vibrant restaurants and a sub 40 mins hop on the train into London (if you really crave the bright lights) you must stay here! We adored being able to sit outside with a glass of something and enjoy the country location before strolling into Berkhampstead for a fabulous meal. Sarah, our lovely host popped to say hello and check if we needed anything. Before our arrival she had helped me select somewhere great for dinner and had left fresh orange juice, milk, bread and butter plus a fully stocked cupboard of all the bits you always forget like cereal and jam. The accommodation is straight out of a beautiful interiors magazine and the space and relaxed atmosphere this gave us was so much better than some stuffy hotel room! I can't recommend staying here enough. I will be scanning our diary to try and invent reasons to go back !

We really enjoyed our stay here! The stables was well equipped and presented, and a short 15 minute walk past the castle ruins to the Main Street. Sarah was flexible, friendly and very accomodating! Would definitely visit again :)

A lovely setting with great walks from the doorstep - the whole area has loads of footpaths and beautiful countryside. Berkhamsted itself has lots of choice for places to eat and drink and has a character all to itself The Stables is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean and we found Sarah to be a very welcoming and attentive host. Highly recommended
