About this listing

This is our family get away, unusual, unique and creative. More playful shack than a formal house - our place is a relaxed beach escape at the Paris End of Phillip Island. It is quirky, unexpected, unusual and very personal. Slide back the doors of this polished concrete floored space featuring Aga oven, open fire, day bed and cow skin rugs, amazing bathroom & enjoy relaxed balcony dining.

If you want art and different, this is your place. (if you want IKEA and spotless this is not for you)

The space

This is our beach retreat - and we love it.

Blending new with old, we recently renovated the inside of this island 'shack'. You will find polished concrete floors, crisp white walls and ceilings, creative lighting and funky floor coverings through out.

The L shaped living space features a large open fire place (wood supplied), an open plan fully equipped kitchen with Belfast sink, English tap fittings and a gas AGA oven. The dining area comfortably seats 8.

A book case sits beside the open fire with a selection of fiction and non fiction titles.

The 'L' section of the room has a day bed, for snoozing or watching one of the many DVD's. One of the couches can fold out into a (semi comfortable) double bed for unexpected guests.

In winter, pump up the fire... On warmer days open up the long sliding panel doors to the deck and create a seamless inside / outside space. Then dine alfresco on the deck, pump up the BBQ - or toast marshmallows over the fire-pit. Note: We have decided to keep the price of sharing our space lower - and trust that you are OK supplying your own firewood. Firewood is available for purchase at gas stations and general stores on the island.

We have a beautiful bathroom, with hand screened Italian tiles, a vintage silver backed cut mirror, original bath, vanity and fittings rescued from a local hospital and 1930's hand crafted wall lights (rewired - re-enameled, re-imagined).

There are two bedrooms, both with double doors opening out to a small private wilderness. The larger has a king size bed and a fold out for a child, the smaller a double bed with another fold out single.\\

We have a separate laundry with washing machine and dryer.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole property.

Interaction with guests

Part of the beauty of this space is the quiet privacy this part of the island affords - so unless there is an issue that needs resolving, we prefer to leave you to enjoy your time with yourselves.

This lovely, inviting home is at the start of Phillip Island (which means you can avoid the island traffic!) and close by some lovely beaches. The house is fully equipped and features an amazing bath and fireplace. It's a great weekender to escape Melbourne without going too far away. Don't forget to pick up some wood, as the home can be cold in winter when the fire isn't lit. We hope to visit again!

Thoroughly enjoyed two quiet, romantic nights here. Great ambience with the fireplace going, and soft warm lighting in the huge living space. The master bedroom was so comfy, although for sensitive sleepers be aware that the curtains don't block light. Topped off with a luxurious full sized bath, we couldn't have asked for more!

We had a great stay at Michael and Cath's little cottage. Their house was in a great spot and it was the perfect, warm and welcoming house for a weekend away.

Michael and Cath's beach retreat in Woolomai is a gorgeous quiet haven to relax and explore the cape. The decor is a mix of vintage, eclectic and industrial. The house has a lovely lived-in feel. The bed is extremely comfortable with lovely linens and towels provided. Location was perfect for us, as we were walking the Cape trail and the George Bass Walk from Punchbowl. The beach is 5 minutes walk and there is a bus stop nearby! The only disappointment was that there was no firewood at the house, and as it was a cold weekend, we spent about $40 on wood for the 2 nights.

Response from Michael And Cath:
Susan makes a good point - it is getting colder and wetter down the island over the winter months and firewood is a necessity. We have decided to keep the price of sharing our place lower and let our guests supply their own firewood. If you have a chance - purchasing wood off the island is more reasonably priced.

Perfect beachside retreat! Minutes walk to the beach, lovely quiet neighbourhood.I really enjoyed staying here, it has a great sense of design inside, stunning renno's, Fabulous bath! The extra blankets came in handy and great communication with host. Definitely pick up firewood if travelling in winter, Fire was a delight! Also loved the Arga! Definately worth a trip.

Really well located for beach lounging holiday. Easy walk to safe kid's swimming beach, and longer walk or short drive to wild Wollamai surf beach. Beautiful house with art and great lighting, simple beach shack exterior, very clean and comfortable, warm beds. We could definitely have stayed longer.

Hi! - My wife Cath, and I, a designer are frequent travelers and have had the privilege of staying in a number of AirBNB houses, apartments and rooms abroad. We enjoy meeting new people from all over and have an open table at our place.

Surrounded by family, friends, art and books our homes reflect a random eclectic taste in old and new things blended with our own sense of style.

We look forward to hosting you.
