A two-minute walk from a peaceful beach, this apartment is in the small rural town of Stomio with a few dozen other homes and 3 bars/restaurants. It's a favorite spot among locals but hardly visited by international tourists. There are many sites of historic significance and natural beauty within a short drive.

The space
A two-minute walk from the beach, this cute 1-bedroom 1-bathroom private apartment is in the quiet town of Stomio on the island of Evia. There are marble floors and wood-work throughout. It is fully stocked with all necessary dish and cookware, including a refrigerator, stove, oven, sink and dining table. The bathroom includes a shower with hot water. We provide clean sheets, pillows and towels. The apartment gets plenty of light through screened windows, but shutters can be drawn to get darkness for an afternoon nap. The neighborhood usually has a nice gentle breeze blowing through to keep everything cool, but the apartment also has an air conditioner. There is a large private shaded porch that looks out over the private garden.

Stomio is the favorite beach town of the surrounding area. The water is very warm and calm with very few waves in the summer. There is also a river that empties nearby for kids and paddle boats.

The town of Stomio is small but has a few amenities within walking distance. The hotel across the street serves food and has a pool you can pay to use. If you walk towards the beach, there is a creperie and a bar/cafe. If you walk away from the water there is a supermarket and bakery.

The locals are extraordinarily friendly. It's difficult to buy something without being offered something else for free! Everything is very reasonably priced since it is not a touristy location. There are larger surrounding towns with more restaurants and bars. Some are within a long distance walk, others are a 20-30 minute drive away. The larger port town of Kymi has all amenities like a bank and pharmacy, as well as a ferry to nearby islands.

There are 3 historic Byzantine churches and a monastery in the surrounding towns of only 900 people.

My cousin has a travel tour business and would be happy to take you on tours in the area to see vineyards, biking/hiking trails, historic sites, and natural beauty: https://www.eviatours.com

The Monastery of Matzari is 3km away. It was built in the 16th century at the end of the Palaiologan period. Magnificent wall paintings line the inside. It was a stronghold in the 1821 revolution for liberty against Ottoman Empire.

The Church of Sleep of Theotokos is at the very top of the hill above your apartment, in the town of Oxylithos. It was built in the 12th century and has been recently restored. It also has amazing wall paintings and a large courtyard that hosts the Stifado tradition every year, where 150 pots are used to cook 4 tons of beef with tomatoes and onions. A big feast!

The Agios Church of Saint Nikolaos is also up the hill in Oxylithos and was built in 1304 at the beginning of Palaiologan period. It has beautiful stone wall architecture.

Hey hey! Been living in SF for a few years now and loving it. There's a ton to do here, I'm still discovering new things every weekend. I'm an entrepreneur who has started a few small companies, including a strange one that sells pet jellyfish. On the weekends I mostly get beat up by nature playing in the outdoors.

My friend Angeliki lives up the hill and takes care of guests. She is usually in the area, so if you need anything at all, just ask her. She speaks Greek and English very well.
