The space
We have a sister apartment on the main level of this ranch style house. There is noise transfer between floors so we ask all guests, up and down, to be quiet after 10:00 pm. Both apartments are served by one thermostat on the main floor. Our manager will set the temperature to balance the comfort level for all guests.
Guest access
There is an entrance on the side of the house for the basement apartment. The steps are wide and easy to navigate.
Other things to note
Our home is a 5-10 minute walk to downtown Spearfish with restaurants, breweries, wine bars, shopping, local grocery stores, parks and recreation and Black Hills University.
We are minutes away from the walking, jogging or biking trail than runs along the city’s namesake, Spearfish Creek. The trail is about five miles long, starting at a city park on the north end traveling southward to the mouth of breathtaking Spearfish Canyon. It’s an easy way to observe the beauty of every season in Spearfish: the stunning change of color in autumn, the silence and serenity of winter snows, the flush of green in spring, and the breezes rattling the leaves on a warm summer day.
Within a half mile walk of the house are three grocery stores including a Safeway with a Starbucks and a natural foods store, multiple coffee shops, and numerous bars, restaurants, shops, and churches. Spearfish’s historic Main Street is just blocks away from the house. Black Hills State University is also a mile away. The Spearfish Rec & Aquatic Center is half a mile away and offers workout facilities and a seasonal waterpark. Many other fitness options can be found in Spearfish almost all within a half mile of the house. Eagle Cliff Trails are close by.
A few highlights of things to do in and around Spearfish: The D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery & Archives are a mile away on Spearfish Creek. The Spearfish Canyon Country Club is a mile and a halfs away and it’s less than eight miles to the Elkhorn Ridge golf course. Both of these golf courses are open to the public.
Mountain biking trails are as close as a two-mile bike ride from the house. For fly fishing enthusiasts, Spearfish Creek is a premiere fly fishing spot and is a quick walk from the vacation home.
The historic mining boomtowns of Deadwood and Lead are less than a half hour drive through the Black Hills where you can dine, gamble, shop, and visit the Homestake Mine museum. The Terry Peak Ski Area is about 2 miles south of Lead.
A 60-mile drive west through grasslands and Ponderosa pine forests is the stunning granite formation known as Devils Tower. Approximately 70 miles drive south through winding mountain roads into the Black Hills are the towns of Hill City and Keystone as well as Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. There’s much more to do, see, and experience no matter the season in and around Spearfish.
After a long day of fun, you might consider Black Hills Salt Caves for a relaxing and therapeutic massage. They have a full spa menu.

Flying in and out of the Spearfish area is an easy 60-mile drive (about an hour) to the Rapid City Regional Airport. Spearfish has a local taxicab service and there is Uber.
