Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Based on a traditional 500 acre farm, Rookery Retreat is a unique shepherds hut nestled in a your own acre of oak woodland, a secret thousand year old time capsule.
The hut was created by leaders of luxury living design. The smeg hob, wood burning stove, walk in rain shower, double bed with memory foam mattress and two person stone resin bath are what bring homely indulgence to an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The space
Immerse yourself in this tranquil woodland location, a corner purposely closed off for re-wilding. Surround yourself with soothing sounds of water, hooting owls, and the gentle rustle of leaves. Re-engage with nature and leave everyday stresses well and truly behind.

Set within an acre of historic woodland on a traditional, working family farm dating back to the Doomsday Book. Today, the land has been lovingly farmed by the same family since the 1800s. Idyllically situated to take advantage of the most beautiful scenery; facing out over 200 acres of forestry featuring views of the stunning valley. Rookery Retreat Shepherds Hut perfectly blends indulgent luxury with a true escape into nature. Tune out modernity and instead witness the whispering woodland and gently babbling brook. Enjoy the seclusion of the remote location. Dine al fresco on the patio, or take a picnic down by the water. Later, settle in for the night with a good book to the backdrop of the crackling wood burning stove.
Inside

Rookery Retreat Shepherds Hut oozes bespoke luxury. The welcoming interior has been inspired by the outside, with natural tones and materials lending a warm, homely feel. Luxury touches include an smeg hob, a wood burning stove and a Roberts Radio sound system. And don’t miss out on the most incredible walk-in rainfall shower. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the tranquil surroundings offering a unique, yet homely experience. Essential toiletries, towels, cooking pots, pans and utensils. Crockery and glasses, along with tea and coffee making facilities. Meanwhile, the double bed boasts a memory foam mattress; perfect for sweet, carefree dreams. Simply pack your clothes and some food - everything else is taken care of.
Outside

Breathe in the fresh air of your very own woodland at Rookery Retreat Shepherds Hut. The secluded setting makes for a relaxing break – your only neighbours being farm animals and nesting birds. Enjoy the unparalleled views of the adjacent valley and 200 acres of forest land. Recline into a restful doze as you swing gently between the trees on the hammock. Later, grill on the barbecue as you dine al fresco on the private patio area. And as night falls, cuddle in front of the glowing fire pit beneath an unspoilt, twinkling sky.

Guest access
You own private lane all the way to the Hut.

Other things to note
Although we have no baby facilities, we are happy to take couples with babe in arms. The reason we have found it unsuitable for mobile children, is because of the wood burning stove without a fire guard, and the nearly metre high cast iron wheels, mean the shepherds hut steps are quite high.

EXTRA FIREWOOD £10/BAG

inc kindling, indoor and outdoor firewood. An initial free large batch of logs and firefighting equipment is there for your arrival.

Please let us know if you’d like to see any parts of the farm or particular animals- we’d be happy to show you around!

Extra note * keys are the responsibility of the guests. Lost keys must be paid for @£100 to cover cost of changing the locks and additional keys.

Neighbourhood highlights

Farm is nearby if you need anything. No other neighbours (unless you count the farm animals). You are securely fenced away from them- don’t worry!
There are also some amazing walks on the doorstep. Access to acres and acres of forest, Dartmoor national park, the coast is about 40 minutes away by car and there are numerous bridleways and tracks in the surrounding area for riding and cycling. The quaint and traditional Devon village of Northlew with its stunning Norman church (12-15th century), thatched cottages and a pub, post office and shop, is within 40 minutes walking distance, and the market towns of Okehampton, Launceston and Tavistock are within a 25 mile radius, offering local produce, artisan food, castle ruins and gardens, all in an area steeped in history and outstanding natural beauty.

Lives in Northlew, United Kingdom
Half English, half Norwegian mum of two children and we have three wonderful family dogs. Passions include Scandinavian interior design, and creating warm and relaxed spaces, cooking with our own local ingredients and have ridden since I could walk. Adore everything countryside and married a 5th generation farmer. Animals are my love in life-followed by walks, pubs and audiobooks (all made better if a dog is involved of course).
