About this listing

Welcome to our home! This vintage cabin is located on the bank of the Yuba river. Ski resorts are close by and hiking options abound. The cabin features a fireplace and a custom stained glass bathroom. If unique is your favorite word, read on!

The space

Come enjoy the mountains and relax in our cozy, beautiful cabin! This 950 square foot gem is compact but has everything you will need for a comfortable stay. You will appreciate the beautiful stonemasonry around the water feature outside and the craftsman woodwork inside.

The south facing living room has two large French doors providing a scenic view of the river (toddler alert 2), with a fireplace that you can cozy up next to after a hard day’s skiing or hiking. We purposely do not have a TV but we provide a large monitor in the living room on which you can watch movies. An eclectic selection of books is also available for you to read. The downstairs bathroom is the most beautiful room in the house with its stained glass windows. Turn on the lights at nighttime and admire it from the outside. And when you come back inside try out the Jacuzzi jet bath.

Two medium sized bedrooms are located upstairs, one with a Cal King bed, the other with a queen size bed and a loft that can sleep one extra person. Comforters, linings, pillows and extra blankets are provided to assure a good night sleep at the end of your memorable day.

Our home's kitchen is equipped with all modern conveniences except a dishwasher. The house has hi-speed Internet access and the cell phone reception is quite good. The living room’s wood stove heats the house nicely but can be complemented with the wall propane heater and/or two space heaters.

And of course, there is the beautiful river right outside the back deck and plenty of summer and winter outdoor activities at your disposal.

The northwest shore of Lake Tahoe is about a 30 minutes drive away. Within ten miles you can find three ski resorts including Royal Gorge, one of the county’s largest cross-country resorts. Trailheads starting at Royal Gorge lead to a number of beautiful alpine lakes that you can hike to in summer.

Guest access

The entire home will be available to you as well as the back and side deck and the rest of the property. We have riparian rights so you can take a stroll along the river.
Inside the home you will find a well-stocked kitchen with condiments, spices, tea and coffee that you can use. Soap and shampoo are also provided.

Interaction with guests

We hope to have the opportunity to meet and greet all of our guest in person. If schedules don't permit, we may arrange a greeting by our home's caretaker or we will leave instructions for access using the lockbox. We will also be available via phone throughout your visit.

Other things to note

Winter use:
If you come in winter, you will need to learn how to use the fireplace and carry wood from the storage to the living room.
Speaking about mountain living in winter:
We have no garage or carport (yet).
Our driveway and the community roads are plowed by the association but you may have to shovel some snow in the event of a winter storm.

This place was absolutely beautiful. It had everything you hoped and wished for in a nice cabin getaway. And the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect trip! Thank you so much Britta!!

Britta is a warm and welcoming host. We were happy to meet her when we arrived and she gave a great run through of her home. Britta's home is super cozy. We loved the river flowing through her backyard. Even though the water was low there was a swimming hole our son thoroughly enjoyed. Britta offers a fully stocked kitchen, a gas grill, mac book and large monitor and a sweet little sleeping loft perfect for our son. Thank you Britta!

Response from Britta:
Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Chair will be replaced for next season, lighter soon. I do mention the freeway noise in the AirBnB description. Not sure how to make people read it :-). Glad you enjoyed the place. Brita

Britta was very easy to communicate with. The cabin is very cozy and is right on the river where our 5 y.o. spent a lot of time playing, splashing, swiming, painting rocks and pine cones. We were there during the heat wave in Sacramento area, so the cabin heated up during the day (it doesn't have a/c or fan), but since the nights were very cool, it was very comfortable in time for bed. We were 3 adults and 1 child, and we had enough space for everyone. Dining table is rather small, but we made it work. We wanted to stay longer, but the cabin was booked (no surprise here!). Thank you for a wonderful experience, Britta!!

Where do I begin. If you think the photos are awesome, wait until you see Britta's cabin. It's SO much better than the photos. The woodwork is artful, the decor enchanting, and comfort.... so very comfortable. Everything you could want in a cozy cabin getaway is here. EVEN a light and motion activated rainbow colored lit up toilet bowl to avoid those midnight misses. Even though we didn't get the pleasure of meeting Britta, her personality is all over the place... and I mean that in a good way. The only down side was the traffic noise from Hwy 80 was a bit loud when sitting on the deck, but if you just imagine it's river noise instead you'll be fine.

We loved every minute of Brittas lovely cabin. everything we could have needed was on hand. My son loved the loft bed and is trying to figure out how to get one at home. We would definitely stay here again.

Britta was so helpful from the time I requested her cabin (she replied and confirmed my request within minutes) until we checked out (she texted me hoping I had enjoyed my stay.) When we arrived at the cabin I couldn't remember how to get in and I couldn't log into Airbnb either. I texted her and she called me immediately and patiently explained. Her cabin is gorgeous, funky, exactly as she explained and better than the photos. Everything is clean and neat. Her instructions are clear, and we felt at ease to feel like we were at home. Her kitchen is complete and we were able to cook delicious meals. The river is beautiful, and we spent lots of time sitting next to it and going to sleep listening to it. We met her neighbors and they too are friendly and helpful. We loved Britta's cabin, and I didn't want to leave!

Britta was an amazing host! She was uber-communicative before we arrived and provided great directions to the cabin. Once we arrived, the cabin was exactly as described and in excellent condition. There were only two of us at the cabin, but the living room is big enough to fit 4-6 people comfortably with cozy seating and blankets for all. The kitchen is well stocked and the BBQ on the back deck was a nice touch. The cabin is just 20 minutes from Truckee and 45 minutes from Sierraville. It was a great treat staying at Britta's cabin.

born and raised in Germany I made it over the pond for the first time at age 18 and fell in love. 12 years later I was enjoying the Southern California sun while finishing school. I lived at the foothill of the San Gabriels then and fell in love with the mountains. And now I own a beautiful home in the mountains that I would like to share with you. I hope you will like it as much as I do! Airbnb suggests I write about my life motto here. I guess I'll go with Brendan Gill's: "Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious."
