For two months I stayed at Jason and Pemba's house in Sanepa, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a home-like place to stay in Patan, may it be for a shorter or a longer period of time. Their place is conveniently located in an area with many restaurants around, small stores as well as a bigger supermarket - yet it's not on the main road itself but on a rather quite street. The house provides for multiple different spaces, that you share with the hosts and other guests - from the rooftop to the hammocks in the garden, all is very green with plants and flowers, well kept and allows for sufficient space for everyone to read, work or just hang out with the other people around. The place is very special in comparison to the B&Bs I had stayed at before, definitely more than a simple accommodation. I really enjoyed the vibe in the house created by the presence of the two very open and helpful hosts and the whole lovely team, that is very attentive to one's preferences and responsive to whatever questions you may have. I am very happy to have been able to spend time here, and will remember many nice memories created in this place - from a cozy evening around the fireplace, some shared dinners and beers with other short-/long-term guests, the delicious saturday brunches that are open to the whole community, and the intriguing discussions with Pemba and Jason about their multiple, diverse initiatives - they are real super-hosts:)

I've been traveling for a while now in Asia. After staying at many hostels, it became time to treat myself a little by choosing a B&B. I couldn't have picked a better place than PatanSquared. Very comfortable bed, excellent WiFi, lovely staff, many areas to sit to relax or work, great location, lovely garden and everything is very tidy and clean. I was able to cook my own meals (finally!) in the lovely clean kitchen. Pans, cutlery etc. were all provided. They had all the accessoires I needed as well as many herbs. Breakfasts were different every day and there's a brunch every Saturday which was so well organized and a great idea to bring guests together. The warmness and hospitality of everyone made my entire stay completely memorable.

They were very accessible and friendly, and made my stay very easy. One of the most quiet places at night I have stayed in at Kathmandu. I will definitely be back!

I enjoyed my stay at PatanSquared a lot. The hosts with their staff members are very warm-hearted and they will help you with everything either related to what to do in Kathmandu or elsewhere in Nepal as much as they can. It is a place to have your own space but also have enthusiastic conversations with other guests. The house itself is comfortable and location is close to restaurants and public transportation.

This place is absolutely terrific and it has become my number-one go-to place in Patan. Here's the breakdown: The place: It's clean, centrally-located (but still quiet from city noise), and beautifully set back from the main street. Every detail has been carefully selected - from the excellent mattresses to the various tools for making coffee - to create an atmosphere that really feels like home. There was steady electricity and fast internet - which were both extremely useful for my work. The hosts: Jason (Shah) and Pemba (Sherpa) are incredible human beings, committed to creating a better world and a better Nepal. I found them very accessible and willing to chat about anything. As hosts, they strike the perfect balance of making sure you have everything you need and giving you the tools to explore. The community: If you need a quiet room and don't want to socialise, it's totally possible here. But even I (an introvert) found myself drawn to meet the other people staying at the house - which was very easy given communal breakfasts and big open porches. The international travelers drawn here provided rich conversations and a whole lot of fun. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Patan, and I'm already looking forward to my next stay! Thanks, SherpaShah, for everything!

Both hosts made my experience here more than worthwhile on several different levels! Sherpa was extremely useful in helping myself to accustom to the differences in setting along with giving ample information in ways around town, travel itinerary's around Nepal and meeting people within Kathmandu.

Welcome to the vibrant Kathmandu valley!

Our valley is large and diverse, yet we know it intimately! While the urban core of the valley can get crowded, loud, and challenging, it also offers incredible opportunities to explore ancient religions, old architecture, and incredible cultural heritage. Kathmandu and Patan, in its unity, is a city of 4 million people in the day but a town of 4000 people late in the night; you run into your friends everywhere.

During your stay in Kathmandu, your exploration need not limit itself in the durbar squares or backpackers’ areas; just beyond the city core, and within 30mins drive, are rice fields, old towns, hikes, bike trails, adventure sports, and incredible sights. One thing for sure, you might come for the mountains, but you will return for the people.

About us:

We are two friends, born and raised in different socio-cultural identities within the territories of Nepal. Pemba grew up in terraced farms near rugged mountains, and Jason came of age running through narrow alleys of fertile valley plains. Apples and Oranges, if you will! We met as 'couchsurfers' in Kathmandu valley, which we both call home now.

As we started hanging out, drinking, dancing, and sharing our ideas, we realized that we both shared similar ideas of a "good life". Hence, we have set forth with a multidimensional platform "SherpaShah," combining our last names, to forge enterprises and initiatives that champion grassroots sustainability, urban renewal, sharing economy, civic responsibilities, and introspective travel.

We love traveling for conversations and inspirations, not necessarily for the newness of places or people. Along the way, we have heard incredible personal stories and met exceptional practitioners of social change; these experiences inspire us to live a life of creativity, camaraderie, community, and challenges. Irrespective of destinations, we share the fascination with sights and sounds of daily life in its vernacular. We hope you travel similarly.

As you develop ideas to explore the vastness of Nepali landscape and diverse cultures, we want to offer you our experiences in planning your travel! Come, stay with us to begin :) Our SherpaShah crew, a team of young, passionate Nepalis, are excited to host you in our homes and invite you to our communities!

Our homes:

All room listings belong to our two homes:

1. PATANsquared: This beautiful home is located just outside the historic city of Patan. We are very close to attractions, cafes, restaurants, bars, and music venue. Public transportation is easy, cabs are available, and there are lot of options for shopping - grocery or souvenirs. All 6 rooms of this house are listed on airbnb. Beside being our home, PATANsquared is an urban community hub that brings together curious minds and accomplished professionals - travelers and city residents - from all walks of life to inquire about personal responsibilities for social good. We host free walking tours of Patan every Thursdays, homemeade dinners and discussions on food systems every alternate Fridays, and "Sunny Bar Brunch" - with great food and attractive cocktails - every Saturdays. As our guests, you are invited to all of these events, or you can stay in the privacy of your room or relax in our terraces, if you prefer.

2. Dhulikhel GetAway: This luxurious home is tucked away in leafy surroundings of Dhulikhel just one hour outside the city. Overlooking the Himalayas, our home is a great place to rejuvenate, relax, and rejoice with your friends. Jason set up and operated a learning center - with natural buildings and organic agro-forestry - in a village nearby for two years and still hosts experiential learning programs for students regularly. We have incredible relationship with the residents of this town, and we leverage these partnerships to organize hikes, monastery stays, old town tours, organic farm visits, bike trips, and cooking courses. When you book to stay, you get the privacy of an entire home. Nepali meals are prepared and delivered by a local family on request.
