The space
Peaceful and quiet2 story 2b/1b home in Barton overlooking the beautiful Crystal Lake and Barton Mountain.

The home has two units - one for guests and one for us (the owners) next door. We have remodeled and decorated the guest unit to feel peaceful and inviting on your trip to the Northeast Kingdom.

The house is easy to find just outside of the village of Barton, south on Route 5 and about a mile from I91 (exit 25). Barton is a quiet little town with a post office, art center, thrift shops, library, restaurants, gas station, and grocery store.

The guest unit is about 1300 sq feet and overlooks the lake. It can sleep up to 4 people comfortably. It has a cozy living room with a TV and with two large picture windows - the front has a clear view of the lake and mountains, the other faces the back with a view of trees.

The kitchen is stocked with a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee makers (keurig and standard), pots & pans, dining ware, and utensils, as well as basic spices, sugar, olive oil, and tea. There is a small bar area to dine at, or sit in the dining room at the table. The dining room also has lake/mountain views.

Upstairs are the bathroom and two bedrooms. The bathroom has views of the trees at the back of the house. The bedrooms both overlook the lake and mountains. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed that can sleep two. There are soft blankets and a warm down comforter for the winter. The master bed also has a small work desk facing the lake and two closets to store your traveling gear. The 2nd bedroom has a full-sized bed that could sleep two and a closet for storing items.

There is a door leading out from the dining room to a small porch on the front where you can sit and enjoy the view.

The Northeast Kingdom is a special corner of the world where you can come to truly feel “away from it all”. Each day at the house offers stunning variations of the view. Birdsong fills the air, the creek bubbles gently on the side of the property, and on clear nights there are a multitude of stars and constellations visible. Deer and turkey often roam through the woods behind the house. We’ve seen a number of other creatures here too - foxes, woodchucks, bear, loons, eagles, falcons, Canada Goose, songbirds, etc.

For those who love to spend time outside, the house is centrally located between Burke Mountain and Craftsbury Outdoor Center. There are numerous other nature trails and parks scattered throughout the Northeast Kingdom. Willoughby Lake, Mount Psigah, Sentinel Rock Park, Shadow Lake - all within about 10-15 minutes away, while Jay Peak is about 50 mins away.

Barton is also located about halfway between Newport and St. Johnsbury - both larger towns with all the conveniences of such - movie theaters, bowling alleys, restaurants, breweries, and grocery stores. Burlington is about 1 ½ hours away and the Canadian border is just past Newport.

Quiet street just outside town. Currently no neighbors on either side. Some traffic can be heard during normal work hours if the windows are open, but quiets down at night.

My family and I moved to Vermont in the summer of 2020 seeking to get away from the hustle & bustle of city life. The Northeast Kingdom is a gorgeous corner of the world and we consider ourselves lucky to call this place home.

In warmer weather we are constantly outside gardening, hiking, etc. In winter we enjoy cross-country skiing and making snow forts.

We are super chill people and hope to share our peaceful spot with visiting friends, family, and our Airbnb guests. :)
