Silouane was a lovely host. Highly recommended. My daughter stayed for around a month and was made very welcome. She loved her room which had enough room for all her goods plus a bonus of a balcony looking over a busy street. Silouane was laid back and very easy to be around…

The Apartment, It is rare to find such a spacious apartment in paris, with 2 balconies and a private bedroom! However, there is dust everywhere and it isn't really clean. The location is very good, between the park and the canal with lots of nightlife in the area. The bed is gr…

Response from Silouane:
Yaron was clearly the worst guest I ever hosted. I preferred not to let him any commentary than giving him a bad one but since he left this one on my wall I must give a bit of precision concerning my experience with him. About the cleanliness of the apartment, I have to say that I am quite shocked to see this commentary coming from Yaron. When I started hosting people I think that my standards of cleanness weren’t high enough. After a few bad commentaries I realized my error and started spending hours in between guests to make sure that the apartment was the cleanest possible. This is the point that I put the most importance on. This year I have only been spending about 2 days a month in the apartment, so I consider that it is my job to make sure that it is perfectly clean when a guest arrives, but not to clean after him while he is here. Almost every time I came to the apartment, it was in a poor state, so I feel kind of confused when seeing Yaron’s remark. I am even more shoked when I see his criticism concerning privacy. No one has ever raised this issue with me. I lent a screen to Yaron that I was storing in one of my closets because he asked me to, and because I had no use of it at the time. After a month or so, one of my friends asked me if I could lend it to him. I tried getting in touch with Yaron but his phone didn’t work since he was on a business trip in Israel. A friend of his was staying in his room while he wasn’t here. When I got to the apartment I asked his friend if I could enter the room to get my screen, I wouldn’t have dared enter the room without his consent. I thought he would have told Yaron that I came in to take the screen, but apparently he didn’t so when Yaron came back from his trip he may have been confused. Concerning the arrangement we had, I think that either Yaron misunderstood it, or interpreted it the way he wanted. It is stated on my page that I am renting a private room, not the full apartment. The living room is shared during the day but I am supposed to be able to sleep in it at night. However, since I am currently living in the suburbs I am almost never there. I tried being nice and letting Yaron know as much as possible in advance when I was coming, but this was no obligation for me, as stated prior. I wasn’t renting him the full apartment. Anyone aware of the Paris real estate market will understand that a 45 meter square apartment fully equipped, with balcony in Paris isn’t rented 850 euros a month. I find it disconcerting that Yaron raises the point of privacy since I have never seen as many different people living in my apartment as when Yaron was here. One event actually made me VERY UNCONFORTABLE. Yaron had to cancel his rent for the last two weeks in a very short notice. He asked me if he could be repaid the difference but I explained him that it wasn’t possible since I had paid for my own personal rent. Yaron understood my point but asked me to cancel his reservation, to try renting the place for the 2 weeks and to give him the money I would have made. I figured that since he had paid for the place I could make a little effort and make him this favor. Unfortunately I received no demand for these two weeks. Yaron then asked me if he could rent the place to a friend of his and deal with the money themselves, which I accepted. Yaron had left town so I gave the keys of my apartment to a complete stranger with no security that this person wouldn’t steal stuff from me, and without earning anything in exchange... I feel a little stupid writing that now I admit, but the story doesn’t end there. I got home one night and the person to whom I had given the keys wasn’t the one staying in my apartment. She had left the keys on the door (inside) so I had to ring for 10 minutes in the middle of the night for her to finally open the door. I had to reason the person behind the door that I was the owner of the apartment and not to call the police, since it was in the middle of the night. When I got in, this person had no idea that I was supposed to be able to sleep in MY living room. This was really the worst experience I ever had with a guest. It is definitely my mistake for being naïve and accommodating with people. Yaron also locked himself out while my parents and I, meaning the only persons to have a copy of the keys, where on holiday. I explained him that I could send my set of keys with the fastest postal service but Yaron needed to get in the next day for professional reasons (his computer and cloth were inside). I figured that I have to be present for people that stay for a week or so but not for those who stay more than 2 months. Yaron asked a locksmith to open the door without my consent and assumed that I should have to pay for half of the expense. First I thought that it wasn’t my mistake and that I shouldn’t have to pay for it. Facing this reaction Yaron’s tone changed and he became kind of rude. He later on apologized and explained that his reaction was linked with the stress he was facing at work. Once again, I tried being nice and thought that a copy of the keys should have stayed with one of my neighbors. After things calmed down between us, I decided to pay half of the expense, 100 euros, thinking that it would prevent me from having an arbitrary commentary. My experience with Yaron was of a constant negotiation and resolving problems. I actually feel kind of manipulated after seeing such a bad commentary. I like creating a relationship with the people I host but this experience has taught me to be more careful.
