Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Escape the hustle of everyday life with a getaway to a true Alaskan cabin experience. Meander up a short trail from the cabin to access miles of hiking/biking/x-country ski trails. Upon returning from your adventure, gather around the fire-pit for s'mores or snuggle up inside near the warmth of the wood stove. Always be on the lookout for what makes living in the north so magical: the northern lights and local wildlife such as moose, fox or owls. The joys of the simple life await you.

The space
Unplug, unwind, and relax in this cozy, authentic log cabin surrounded by a towering birch tree forest. The location could not be more ideal: you will have the feeling of being remote and secluded, yet the cabin is within 10 minutes of town. The Birch Hill Recreation Area, one of the premier cross-country skiing destinations in the country, is quite literally in the backyard! Easy trail access to miles of groomed x-country ski trails in the winter, or hiking and biking trails in the summer. Also easy access to hundreds of miles of connecting backcountry trails used by local dog mushers and backcountry skiers, great for hiking and snow-shoeing as well.

The location IS fantastic, but so is this true Alaskan cabin! Thoughtful details and design make this space uniquely Alaskan, filled with the comforts of the North. The kitchen is well-equipped with a stove and oven, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and fridge. Snuggle up on the leather sofa or wingback chair and enjoy the warmth of the wood stove. The pull out sofa opens up to a queen bed. TV, DVD player and DVDs, as well as books and games are provided. A large armoire provides storage for suitcases and personal items. Lined with twinkling lights, the cozy upstairs loft boasts a brand new queen mattress, luxurious bedding, and plenty of extra blankets and pillows.

Want to have a real Alaskan experience? Try dry cabin living! This is a dry cabin, meaning no indoor plumbing or running water. The outhouse is next to the cabin, but this is no ordinary outhouse—it is a piece of art! Hanging lights guide the way to the new outhouse where the inside is lined with tongue and groove wood, a modern light fixture, and stocked with essentials (TP, trash can, wipes, hand sanitizer, etc). Fun features like the moose antler handle and caribou antler TP holder will make you smile. You have never seen an outhouse like this before!

Relax on the front porch in rocking chairs and take in the bird songs while keeping an eye out for moose, owls, ravens, lynx, squirrels or fox—they visit often. Watch the northern lights dance overhead during dark nights of winter. Warm up by the fire in the fire pit area in Adirondack chairs and roast marshmallows. Experience the simple joys of life at the Ski Haus!

Warmest greetings from the far north! I’m Jenny and I’ve lived in Fairbanks, Alaska with my husband and three children for nearly a decade. There are so many things I love about Alaska: the down-to-earth people, the easily accessible adventures, the breathtaking scenery, and the toughness that one develops from living in an extreme climate. When I’m not working the “Mom Taxi” gig, you can find me biking, paddle boarding, skiing, snuggling my dog babies, or playing in my pottery studio. I’m excited to add “hosting an Airbnb property” to my repertoire and to welcome guests to my adorable little cabin that I’ve put my whole heart into. I hope you love it as much as I do!
