The Townhouse Inn has everything it needs to be fabulous, but it falls short in such fundamental ways that I can’t quite recommend it. In its favor: a solid and funky old building in a convenient location. You’re east of the more fashionable part of Chelsea, but there are advantages to that—Townhouse is a half block from two different subway lines The service was reasonably attentive. The breakfast room is very pleasant and it makes a great spot to sit and have a tea or coffee any time of day. Though they could bring the breakfast up a notch. The bathroom in our room had been renovated. It was spotless, the towels were good and it was nicely appointed. Our room was very large. We were there with our two teenage boys. The bed was at least a queen; we had one kid on a pull-out sofa and they brought in a rollaway, there was a lot of other furniture and there was still room to walk around. For a family of four to be able to stay in one room at a reasonable price is very hard to find in NYC. And our host, Eric, was very nice, going out of his way to answer questions and give advice before we arrived. Even though the room we requested (2 Queen Suite) was full, he got us into another room (Sunny King Suite) that worked well for the four of us. Now for the shortcomings. The mattress was poor and the pillows were cheap lumps of fiber fill. When we got in bed, an old shelf being used as a slat dropped out from underneath. The bed linens were limp and dingy. The decor was 100% thrift store, which can be great when done with some flair. But this was more like a bunch of guys who tried their best to make a guest room at the fraternity house. The was also no air circulation in the building. We were in NY on a gloriously crisp and cool April weekend, but the air felt like it had been trapped since October. It was stagnant and stifling. The whole effect, especially when lit by the 40-watt fixture in the middle of the ceiling, was dreary and depressing.

My family stayed here for seven nights. The experience is perfect. The house is close to several subway lines. It's very easy to reach most of the popular spots. The breakfast is also very good. Eric and his team are very nice and helpful.

Great location in Chelsea with easy access to the Village and plenty to do right outside the door. Decor is casual and sweet, and the shared library/dining area is terrific. Our hosts were kind and helpful, we had a great time.

Actually this was my very first experience with Airbnb. It was amazing!!!! All three of us like this beautiful room!!!! Eric is really very friendly. They have a fancy coffee/dining area in the second floor. They also provided milk, coffee, orange juice, croissant and bagel for free breakfast. Also, the room smells so good. Additionally, the subway is about 2 min walk. A store sells fresh fruits is cross the street. All in all, we all love this place. Already recommended my friends!!

The Townhouse Inn was lovely, like a little boutique hotel. The room was just as you'd imagine a typical New York studio apartment to be (without the kitchen). The breakfast was amazing and the staff friendly and courteous. Would highly recommend!

We had a wonderful experience! The location was great! Right in the middle of everything with uptown and downtown subways all within walking distance, and great experiences like the shake shack and the flat iron building 1.5 blocks away! It is a classic old NY building so obviously it has its creeks and groans and things like low water pressure, but the pluses outweigh any negative (like the hot water being out the very first night). The breakfast was a normal continental breakfast, and the library was an inviting cozy atmosphere to start your morning. I also can not rave enough about how great of a host Eric was!! When he's there in the morning he greets you like your old friends, and he truly is available 24 hours a day for any hiccups your stay may have along the way (like the need for a plunger, or the fact that the second there was a hot water issue he was there and had an emergency boiler crew on there way to fix it, which was done very promptly). I would recommend this place in a heartbeat I actually already have TWICE :).

Hi I'm Eric,
We run a townhouse inn bed and breakfast in Chelsea, Manhattan. We have 13 rooms and run it like an old New York colonial mansion. Each room has a private bathroom.
