Cabin Ishbel is our beautiful wooden chalet in West Wales, which sleeps six people. It is the perfect place to spend a long weekend or a family holiday, nestled in the peaceful Welsh countryside.

The space

Cabin Ishbel is our beautiful wooden chalet in West Wales, which sleeps six people. It is the perfect place to spend a long weekend or a family holiday, nestled in the peaceful Welsh countryside.

A mile from the village of Cenarth in Carmarthenshire, Cabin Ishbel is a cosy peaceful place to spend a long weekend or have a family holiday. It has three bedrooms - a double, a twin, and a bunk room - so can comfortable sleep 6 people. There's even room for another two in the lounge, if you really need it!

Cabin Ishbel is our home-away-from-home, we stay there ourselves several times a year; we even held our wedding party there! The cabin is one of our favourite places to be and we'd love to have you come and visit.

LOCATION

Cabin Ishbel nestles in the trees on the edge of Penlan Holiday Village, a small family-run holiday park of Scandinavian-style lodges in a beautiful woodland setting. The park has a small shop, a bar, an outdoor pool (in summer), and provides wifi across the site (for a small charge).

The cabin is in the heart of rural West Wales at its finest. It's a great launch pad for country walks, and the Pembrokeshire National Park is just 10 miles away. The river Teifi runs through the village, with opportunities to kayak and fish. The nearest beach is 10 miles away, with all the gorgeous secluded beaches of the Ceredigion and Pembs coast lines to choose from.

You're in a rural location, so public transport is limited - the cabin is best reached by car. However, there is an hourly bus service, Mon-Sat only, which will take you between Cenarth and Cardigan, or Cenarth and Carmarthen (the nearest mainline train station).

FACILITIES

The cabin has a well-equipped fitted kitchen, heaters in each room and an electric shower. From the kitchen and deck you can look over the Preseli hills while you have dinner, or a BBQ. The lounge is super cosy, with a stove to help keep the evening chills away.

The cabin is very much a self-service experience. We will send you a key code, and you let yourself in. Duvets, pillows and lots of blankets are provided. You can either bring your own bed linen, or ask us to make the beds for you, for a small extra cost (see below).

You'll find the kitchen cupboard stocked with tea, coffee, condiments, and some basics such as oil, rice and pasta. If you'd like we can arrage a delicious Breakfast Box of locally-sourced groceries to be ready waiting for you when you arrive! More details below.

We choose not to have a tuned-in television, as the cabin is a place to unwind and disconnect from the world. But we have tonnes of DVDs and a good selection of board games! If you do need to check in with the outside world, wifi is provided by the park but our cabin is on the edge of the zone, and most phones struggle to connect. Enjoy the digital detox or talk a walk to different spot in the park. Please bring £1 coins for the electricity meter (roughly one per day), and please bring your own towels.

The cabin can get quite chilly even in summer; after all, it is a simple wooden building in a forest. The heating is good and lots of blankets are provided, but do bring warm clothes and pyjamas!

EXTRAS

The cabin is wonderfully simple place to stay - you can just turn up and treat it as your own home. But we appreciate that sometimes when you go away you want to be looked after, just a little bit. So we have a few extras you can ask us to arrange for you - just let us know when you're booking.

We invite you to use our duvets and pillows, but to bring your own bed linen from home. But if you'd prefer we can make the beds for you so they're all ready on your arrival. Just let us know which beds you want made, and it will cost £9 per bed.

We know that getting to the shops for groceries can be a pain, especially if you're arriving late, so if you'd like we can arrange a Breakfast Box for you containing everything you need. It costs £20 and contains a wide variety of locally sourced produce, easily enough for two people for a weekend. You'll find in it a loaf of bread, bottle of milk, some butter, eggs, local cheese, a variety of cereals, some orange juice, yogurt and fruit, plus bacon or veggie sausages (your choice).

Guest access

The entire cabin is yours! Three bedrooms, a large lounge, a kitchen diner, and two decks - one in the sun, and one under the roof. The cabin is on the edges of a beautiful woodland holiday village, which has a walking meadow, a playground, an outdoor pool in the summer, and a small bar and shop.

Interaction with guests

The cabin is entirely self-service. Though we don't live locally, our cleaner will visit before you arrive to make sure it's spick and span for you. Also the holiday village team are very helpful in the unlikely event of a problem, and we can be reached by phone (if you can get a signal!)

There's not much mobile phone signal at the cabin, which we love! In particular the O2 network is bad around that area of Wales (guess which network we use?). EE/Orange/Vodafone are better. A scrap of O2 signal can often be found by walking to the top corner of the site (near Cabin 37).

This is a good location for both inland and coastal visits. The site was quiet while we were there; the only facilities we made use of on site was the swimming pool which was fine for a quick splash for the children. Although we visited in August and miraculously had good weather, the cabin is dark even during the day as the surrounding trees take up so much light - so you will need to have the lights on all the time! Even so, the £1 meter lasted well. The gas fire was a welcome addition as it was chilly in the evenings - depending on how much dancing you do to the vinyl tracks! Thanks so much Sam and Freya!

We stayed for three nights, a very welcoming base to return to after the days' adventures with my two small children. Lots of interesting personal touches, Sam and Freya love their little cabin and have made it quite special. Even though the weather wasn't particularly warm for August, small touches like the heated sofa and lots of low lighting made for cosy evenings and the decking at the back was a good breakfast spot. The beds were comfy and the bedding was plentiful and fresh. Everything we used was in good working order and well-maintained. We took advantage of the site's swimming pool one afternoon too, an added bonus. A short visit for us but we would definitely recommend for any little family looking for a homely place to stay.

Situated in a quiet holiday park in beautiful West Wales, Sam & Freya's cabin is simple tranquility. I hate to use the cliche 'retro chic' but they've nailed it; paired down to just the important things like vinyl, cosiness, being together and playing board games. And for rainy days a DVD collection set mostly in 1985. Basically perfect. The location is perfect for walking, exploring, eating and heading out to some of Wale's best beaches (Mwnt is a must).

We're Sam & Freya. We live in London, but we've had our little cabin in West Wales for three years, and it's the perfect getaway from city life. We love the area so much, we got married there in April 2013. We hope you'll enjoy staying there too.
