Garden view

Soak up the view during your stay.
Perfectly situated on the West Hill of Hastings, within walking distance of the historic old town and beach, this unique cabin offers a green oasis in the heart of Hastings. The Beech Hut (named for the Weeping Beech tree at the entrance) is a self contained one bedroom accommodation in the grounds of The Beacon, one of the most unique venues in Hastings. The Beacon itself is a family home but also part-time restaurant, venue, & arts space for the whole community, as well as a green wilderness.

The space
The Beech Hut is a beautiful timber cabin set in the green grounds of the Beacon garden. The simple open plan living space has a double-sided wood burning stove as it's centre piece and french doors onto a west facing balcony/deck overlooking the shared garden with far reaching views over the town and Alexandra park, not to mention beautiful sunsets. There is a double bedroom with king sized bed, plus a sofa bed if necessary for a child or extra guest. The bathroom has a full size bath with shower.

The Beacon itself provides a large lush green garden as well as a wild vegetable garden which you are free to explore. Please be aware that the garden is shared with the residents of the house and when the restaurant is open, also the public. This sometimes includes children who enjoy playing in the garden. The benefits of the restaurant being open are that you can order delicious home cooked food to be delivered to the cabin or your balcony, plus there is a licensed bar!

Guest access
You will have a free parking space on site. Access is down a narrow unmade track so please let us know if you have a particularly large vehicle.

Once you are here the central location means that you can walk straight out to all the highlights of Hastings & St. Leonards without much need for a vehicle.

Other things to note
The Beacon is a multi-generational family home to 8 members of the same family ranging in age from 5 to 75! The very large garden is shared but The Beech Hut is completely self-contained with its own access at the bottom of the garden so you can choose how much you want to keep private or be social.

Please note there is a small resident dog and a bigger visiting dog who may be on the grounds. They shouldn’t give you any trouble but if you particularly dislike dogs please bear this in mind before booking. Also please let us know if either dog is a problem during the stay.

During the summer season the Beacon opens it's bar and outdoor kitchen for pizzas on a Friday, and cooks up a smashing Sunday roast once a month ...all this on your doorstep if you'd like to take advantage. Sometimes you will find live music or theatre going on... or private functions on a Saturday. Any noise or events finish up by 11pm at the latest, and the cabin does have double glazed windows and is well sound insulated. Please be aware that on these days the garden will be used by diners in good weather, and may have children playing. The garden is quieter during the week and throughout the winter.
