Great farmstay option for families - terrific animals even if you are only here for a day. Sally was accomodating, helpful and friendly!

An ideal "out in the country" experience yet only minutes from town. Sally is the quintessential host: kind, knowledgeable, attentive, available to help while giving complete privacy and space. The animals were great for the kids. Feeding sheep, pigs, collecting eggs, riding the pony. The gardens were immaculate to walk through. Rooms were super comfortable. This is the type of place that you hope for when you book an AirBnB. Thank you

Excellent farmstay, and wonderful if you have kids. We only stayed one afternoon/evening but still managed to soak up a lot! Huge farm with not only sheep but llamas (or were those alpaca?!), happy friendly fat pig, 2 peacocks, hens, rooster, miniature horses, cattle....wow! And the lush garden area for romping or just chilling by the stream with the ducks. By the way, this is no little garden area. It meanders around the whole housing complex for you to explore & enjoy. Parking right at your door. 3 cottages available depending on the size of your party. Hosts genuinely interested in your needs and that you enjoy your stay. Delicious homemade b'fast with fresh eggs from the farm. Easy 5 minute drive to Oamaru for seeing old town and blue penguins tour viewing (starts at 8:30pm.) Excellent restaurant right next to the tour called Portside. Make a reservation. Lots of tour buses use this restaurant for their passengers before tour. We ate elsewhere as they were fully booked. Highly recommend Phil and Sally''s farm. Couldn't ask for a nicer stay than here! Side note.....they also have a backpackers lodge in town. We had an impromtu tour with Sally & her sister and it is creatively decorated including a steam punk room! Very spacious lounge area for meeting fellow backpackers. If you are on a tight budget and don't mind sharing room/bath this is a super cool place. Sunroom overlooks the ocean, waking distance to old town.

The Sheep Out Cottage in Oamaru is so much more than you expect at face value. Meaning it is not just a place to rest your head! During our journey through New Zealand we were on a mission to see penguins and Oamaru was definitely the best way to check that box (though we are off to the Otago peninsula next and we hear they are waiting for us there too). So there are a few adorable little places to stay in the town of Oamaru...but drive five minutes into the country and you get to stay somewhere that feels like home and also get some local flare. My first communication with Sally (the Mrs.Host here) was a wonderful chat and she quickly asked me what time we would like our breakfast served in the morning. We also had to arrive very late for check-in but Sally and Phil have a wonderful setup where you can do just that. So right away we knew we were going to be well taken care of. I think many people stay here and look forward to a sheep shearing demo...which I am sure is great because Sally and Phil are the kindest folks and genuinely want to help you and show you what this area has to offer. They also told us we could explore their garden so my husband and I did just that. This garden has to be the most amazing personal garden we have ever seen! The upkeep is impeccable. The flowers are glorious. The fruit is just coming from everywhere. I mean this garden is one of dreams and in movies. Needless to say...yes I would stay here again and I would probably spend even more time wandering the garden with a glass of wine in my hand while watching the geese, sheep, goats, ponies, and llamas skip about! One local suggestion I would toss out there as a 'not to miss' is the small bar in the Criterion Hotel in town. Hit this on a night when there is live music and there is just no way you won't have a good time! Also...if you are traveling through this area this is a great stopping point between the Oamaru little blue penguins, the Moeraki boulders, Fleurs restaurant in Moeraki, Dunedin, the Otago peninsula, and so much more!

You will not believe how beautiful this farm is, amazing gardens and animals, friendly landlords. We were given a tour to their farm and got to pet the animals, a nice sheep shearing demonstration. It's suitable for families and groups, only one bathroom to share(if you don't mind ). Very comfortable stay and thank you for lovely breakfast!!(5 star cafe style by the way;P)
