It's such a nice place to stay. It's quiet and nicely furnished. The room is huge and drinking water and tea bags are available in my room. There is a lot of books and a guitar on the second floor. You won't be bored if you decide to chill at the place a little bit. I had only stayed there for one night and was leaving Nepal the next day at 5am in the morning. The host are friendly and they helped me to reserve a taxi the next day morning so I can get to the airport. The location is very convenient too. The place is not hard to find and the road getting to the place is nicely paved. If you have travelled to some areas in Kathmandu, you will notice some of the roads are not paved and muddy after rain. You won't have any of those bumpy road experience getting here. There is a very nice Japanese reataurant just across the street. They have a nice set of meals with miso soup and sushi etc. Thank you Jason and Pemba!

Jason & Pemba's place was perfect. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Jason was a wonderful host and we had some great conversations with him. The staff was friendly and kind. Breakfast was simple and delicious. He even went out of his way to help us get a sim-card for our phone.

Staying at Pemba & Jason's house was a fantastic experience. We really enjoyed the atmosphere around the whole house and the room itself was perfect, just as pictured on the photos. It was an inspiring place to stay. Together we sat at the big table every evening and had good conversations while drinking some beers or wines. I would recommend this Airbnb to everybody who wants something more than 'just a room in Kathmandu'. Thank you again so much for everything and hope to see you again in the future.

If you're looking to get away from the chaos of Kathmandu and find accommodation that's homely, tranquil and a great place to meet new people, you must stay here. Although only here for a short time, Jason and Pemba's place was the perfect place to stay. Our room was spacious, homely with a private bathroom that was clean. It had everything we needed, including drinking water, tea and coffee. There was a fan, huge wardrobes to hang our clothes and a writing desk. Facilities include in house laundry which was a life saver. This place is a home which makes all the difference, especially in Kathmandu. I've stayed in various places in Kathmandu over the years, but this place has the edge over anything I've come across. What makes it particularly great is that Pemba will help you organise a great itinerary for your stay. He helped us organise a 3 day trip to the Kathmandu Valley - Nagarkot, Dhulikhel and Namobuddha, including accommodation and places to visit. I love the library that has a vast range of books full of inspiring reads. I would have loved to stay longer and will definitely bookmark this place as the goto place to stay in Kathmandu.

As a solo female traveler I instantly felt welcome and comfortable the minute I set foot into Jason & Pemba's home. Everything described in the listing was accurate with the exception of the outdoor communal are which was actually way more BEAUTIFUL than I was expecting! It's the perfect place to sit, relax, eat, work and spend time with Pemba & the other guests over drinks or food. The space has tasteful decoration and touches all over, very clean and well maintained with an overall chilled and relaxed vibe. Breakfast was lovely in both taste and presentation, and the house staff always friendly and professional. Pemba is very knowledgable and was super helpful throughout my stay, offering tips and assistance. It was very interesting learning about the various projects he and Jason have going on (I didn't get to meet Jason as he was away). Had some great chats with Pemba and the other guests who were a lovely mix of people. My room had all the amenities I could need and the view from the window overlooking the garden was a lovely start to the day. The area itself is very safe and within walking distance to many cafes, restaurants, shops and farmer's market. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a short or longer term stay in Kathmandu.

Pemba was there to greet us when we arrived and after helping us get oriented to the house and neighborhood, was super inviting - my friend and I ended up chatting with him for hours about the great work he is doing in Nepal to give back to the community. The staff who made breakfast in the morning were very sweet as well, and the room itself was great - very big and clean. I highly recommend staying here and would definitely do so again myself if I ever make it back to KTM.

Welcome to the vibrant Kathmandu valley!

Our valley is large and diverse, yet we know it intimately! While the urban core of the valley can get crowded, loud, and challenging, it also offers incredible opportunities to explore ancient religions, old architecture, and incredible cultural heritage. Kathmandu and Patan, in its unity, is a city of 4 million people in the day but a town of 4000 people late in the night; you run into your friends everywhere.

During your stay in Kathmandu, your exploration need not limit itself in the durbar squares or backpackers’ areas; just beyond the city core, and within 30mins drive, are rice fields, old towns, hikes, bike trails, adventure sports, and incredible sights. One thing for sure, you might come for the mountains, but you will return for the people.

About us:

We are two friends, born and raised in different socio-cultural identities within the territories of Nepal. Pemba grew up in terraced farms near rugged mountains, and Jason came of age running through narrow alleys of fertile valley plains. Apples and Oranges, if you will! We met as 'couchsurfers' in Kathmandu valley, which we both call home now.

As we started hanging out, drinking, dancing, and sharing our ideas, we realized that we both shared similar ideas of a "good life". Hence, we have set forth with a multidimensional platform "SherpaShah," combining our last names, to forge enterprises and initiatives that champion grassroots sustainability, urban renewal, sharing economy, civic responsibilities, and introspective travel.

We love traveling for conversations and inspirations, not necessarily for the newness of places or people. Along the way, we have heard incredible personal stories and met exceptional practitioners of social change; these experiences inspire us to live a life of creativity, camaraderie, community, and challenges. Irrespective of destinations, we share the fascination with sights and sounds of daily life in its vernacular. We hope you travel similarly.

As you develop ideas to explore the vastness of Nepali landscape and diverse cultures, we want to offer you our experiences in planning your travel! Come, stay with us to begin :) Our SherpaShah crew, a team of young, passionate Nepalis, are excited to host you in our homes and invite you to our communities!

Our homes:

All room listings belong to our two homes:

1. PATANsquared: This beautiful home is located just outside the historic city of Patan. We are very close to attractions, cafes, restaurants, bars, and music venue. Public transportation is easy, cabs are available, and there are lot of options for shopping - grocery or souvenirs. All 6 rooms of this house are listed on airbnb. Beside being our home, PATANsquared is an urban community hub that brings together curious minds and accomplished professionals - travelers and city residents - from all walks of life to inquire about personal responsibilities for social good. We host free walking tours of Patan every Thursdays, homemeade dinners and discussions on food systems every alternate Fridays, and "Sunny Bar Brunch" - with great food and attractive cocktails - every Saturdays. As our guests, you are invited to all of these events, or you can stay in the privacy of your room or relax in our terraces, if you prefer.

2. Dhulikhel GetAway: This luxurious home is tucked away in leafy surroundings of Dhulikhel just one hour outside the city. Overlooking the Himalayas, our home is a great place to rejuvenate, relax, and rejoice with your friends. Jason set up and operated a learning center - with natural buildings and organic agro-forestry - in a village nearby for two years and still hosts experiential learning programs for students regularly. We have incredible relationship with the residents of this town, and we leverage these partnerships to organize hikes, monastery stays, old town tours, organic farm visits, bike trips, and cooking courses. When you book to stay, you get the privacy of an entire home. Nepali meals are prepared and delivered by a local family on request.
