Chom View Cabins are two private cabins located amidst a century old tea plantation overlooking the town of Chiang Dao. At 1,312 meters above sea level, it's always breezy cool up. Some mornings you'll be sitting among clouds in this hill dubbed as DoiMek (cloudy hill).
***Please please please read the listing carefully. Also, once your booking is confirmed, more details will be sent regarding house rules, tips, and detailed direction. Please read those carefully as well :) ***
Chom View 'A'
The cabin is one of the two private cabins (Chom View Cabins) that we originally built our family and friends to stay when they visit Chiang Dao. It is set in the middle of coffee and tea plantation called DoiMek Estate.
The Assam tea trees are hundreds of years old, and our first coffee yields just won Top Ten Best Coffee of 2015 by Specialty Coffee Association of Thailand!
You will have access to one cabin and using the whole plantation where you are welcome to pick your own tea tips and coffee berries if you're there in the right season. Feel free to take a hike down hill where we there's a small path, but do be careful and keep in mind that you are in the forest.
Interaction with guests
We visit Chiang Dao twice a month, and we would be staying in a house a few hundred meters down the road. We will not come bother you unless you get bored and need some company.
If we are there, you are more than welcome to come visit us for breakfasts and have some coffee or wine too :) Just walk down the road a few hundred meters and knock on our doors!
Other things to note
IMPORTANT to keep in mind: the cabins are set in the forest. So, please respect the nature. Do not hunt or kill any animals. There are no large animals but be aware of some insects and sometimes mice. Even though they are clean and cute, refrain from feeding them. Make sure you secure all trash in the baskets provided.
We do our best to keep the cabin in its best condition. Do let us know if there are problems and we will have our local caretaker to arrive as soon as possible. Our caretaker does not speak English, but you can call me and I will help you out.
There are other villages around, so please be considerate at night regarding noises. Keep mesh doors shut so insects won't come in to bother you at night.
The single phase electricity can sometimes get cut off during heavy rain. If you don't find this romantic, I do not recommend the place. But if you do, there are flashlights and candles to add extra romance to your stay :)
- Put all trashes in the bins provided (you don't want to wake up to ants and mouse poop in the morning)
- Keep noise down to respect the nature and nearby villages
- You can put up your tent to accommodate up to two extra people (on top of one extra person in the room) at extra cost (500 Baht per person)
- Absolutely no smoking inside the cabin. You can smoke outside, but please stub out your cigarettes with water and put them in the trash
I was trained a designer but ended up working in education, publishing textbooks and multimedia educational materials.
I also grow coffee in the mountains of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, where I built two small cabins for myself to stay in when I go there to look after the farm. They are available on airbnb :)
I also roast my own coffee, cook, paint, play saxophone, and scuba dive once in a while.
