I came to San Diego from England for a few months to complete my hours building (towards my Commercial Pilots license) at Gillespie Field. I’m glad I picked this place to stay. It was perfect. I could bicycle from here to the airfield in no time. I could even bike to the local sh…

Staying at this room worked out great for me as I was having my place remodeled. While the idea of staying in a shared house and even sharing a bathroom worried me at first, the way they have it setup make it all work great. Everyone here works and I hardly ever saw my housemates…

Looks like I’ll be staying in San Diego longer. Thanks Mike and Dakee for arranging and extension for me in my favorite of your 13 units!

We had more work done on our house, so back to our favorite “home away from home”. We had another great stay. I love how they setup this unit for tons of privacy, but the affordability of a large shared house. On behalf of my wife and I, we are both thankful to have found such gr…

Mike, Dakee and little Pema are angels! It is difficult to express how I appreciate their kindness. Mike is a really kind person that he helped me lot, which are far beyond his workload as a host. It is quite difficult and unfamiliar for a foreigner to get use to another new c…

As described, three separate rooms all share this one house so your experience can vary wildly depending on who else is staying there. For the most part, this wasn't an issue but be warned. With that, two of the rooms do share a bathroom which might be an issue depending on your …

Response from David:
Hi James, Thank you for taking the time to write a review for the White Room at Gillespie House. We appreciate getting feedback – both the positive and the not so much. We’re glad to see that there was a lot you liked; the quiet neighborhood, its proximity to the freeway, the comfortable bed, and a helpful and responsive host. Thanks! You mentioned that people should “be warned” about the house having three rented rooms, and that the White and Turquoise rooms share a bathroom – we agree that folks should always read carefully the description of any Airbnb listing, so we are very upfront about it, in both the listing and during the pre-booking interview. If you read the reviews you will see that we have an extensive screening process (like the one you went though) to make sure everyone has great housemates, just like you did. You also mentioned an issue that we’ll be rectifying right away; the driveway is cracked – you are absolutely right. That had been brought up once before and we have budgeted to fix the cracks (we may end up repaving the parking area entirely). You also mentioned a few moments when you were “almost concerned” that you wouldn't be able to get your car out, and that was a surprise. Our parking area is quite large (fits more than 6 large vehicles) and we’ve never had any other guest mention that. Apparently you parked in an area with loose gravel. We wish we had known about it while you were still here; one of the reasons we check in with our guests twice a week (or more) is to catch things like this right away. We checked in with you several time and you didn't mention anything when I asked if things were ok and if anything could be improved. It would have been an easy fix. We were really sad that you thought our driveway “was perhaps the worst part”; we love our little houses on the hill, for both the privacy provided from the street, and the awesome views from the patio. We’ll be sure to include information about that during the pre-booking interviews from now on, especially since the great views have made it a fair trade for our visitors in the past. Thanks for staying with us during your relocation to San Diego, James, and for your review. We are proud of our SuperHost status and work hard to provide the best possible experience to our guests. Best of luck to you as a new San Diegan!
