Thistle Dhu Cottage is a self-contained steading/barn annex, decorated in a "rural chic with retro twist" style, located in peaceful countryside. Enclosed garden & private meadow. Great base for exploring Cairngorms, Grampians, east coast beaches & harbours, golf courses, scenic & wildlife photography, astronomy, walking, cycling, or relaxing in your own space. Open-plan Living Room/Dinette/Kitchenette, ONE Bedroom, Shower/Toilet. Pets very welcome. Sorry but not suitable for young children.

The space
Decorated in what we like to call "rural chic with retro twist", with modern facilities and plenty of genuine vintage/retro furnishings (many available to buy). A comfortable space for 2 adults and a couple of dogs. The enclosed garden is small but has a few features to allow outdoor relaxing, and plenty for a couple of dogs - especially as you have access to our 3 acre meadow, seconds from your front door.

Guest access
You will have the 1 bedroom cottage, exclusive use of the enclosed garden, and shared (with us) access to the seasonal wildflower meadow. There is also covered storage for bikes, canoes etc (by arrangement, not secure).

Other things to note
The cottage & garden are NOT child/baby friendly: if you want to bring any youngsters we would need to discuss this prior to booking. We accept no responsibility for children brought without prior agreement.

The additional bed is a sofa bed so not ideal for a long stay, and the layout of the open plan rooms needs to be considered. A larger inflatable bed can be arranged but it will take up Living Room floor space.

Neighbourhood highlights

The cottage is surrounded by mainly agriculture and woodlands. Within 5 minutes walk of the front door are a tree plantation, acres of woodland, and very quiet roads - a car an hour is not unusual traffic volume. Under 10 minutes drive will take you to even more lovely walks that aren’t overwhelmed with visitors. Within 30 minutes are some great beaches, several small towns or villages, and stunning panoramic views of the wider area.

Originally from Wirral, I’ve lived in Scotland 30+ years. Married to Mhairi, and a loyal servant of a dog and numerous hens. I started hosting in September 2022 and am proud of becoming a Superhost after my first 3 months - and retained it since. I’m happy to chat, share my local knowledge, and enjoy meeting new dogs - being dog a friendly place. I speak a little bit of French but am always trying to learn properly.
