Great Host communication

This cosy, traditional stone cottage offers 2 bedrooms (king size and bunk bed), stunning countryside views and open plan living. Perfect for couples and families. Easy access to Hadrians Wall, Northumberland Coast and National Park, Kielder Forest and Alnwick and Otterburn wedding venues.

The space
Converted from the stables and Hayloft of a coaching inn built in the 1830s, set in beautiful Northumberland countryside The Old Hayloft is an ideal location for couples and families looking for self-contained self-catering accommodation to return to after a busy day exploring Northumberland, by bike, on foot or by car. The cottage is also very popular with people attending weddings at the many nearby wedding venues in Otterburn (Woodhill Hall, Le Petit Chateau, Otterburn Castle) - a taxi ride away.

Downstairs guests have their own private open plan living/eating/kitchen area. The kitchen has a fridge (no freezer compartment), oven, hob, microwave and washing machine. Note there is no dishwasher. The bathroom leads off the kitchen and has a bath with shower over, sink, toilet, heated towel rail and underfoot heating. Organic Faith in Nature shampoo, shower gel and conditioner are provided for guests use.

There is a staircase with handrail to the first floor.

Upstairs the main bedroom has a king size bed whilst the smaller bedroom has a bunk-bed. It is best suited to smaller adults and children. We would not recommend it for large/heavy adults. (If you book for 2 people then we will assume that you only need us to make up the bed in the main bedroom. If the booking is for two, but you wish to use one of the bunk-beds as well as the bed in the main bedroom please book for 3 people and we will then ensure that both the main bed and the lower bunk in the second bedroom are made up. If you wish to use both bunks plus the kingsize bedroom then please make a booking for four so that we will then make up all the beds).

We'd also like to tell you about what we've done to make the property environmentally friendly: the property has been insulated to beyond required standards, benefits from double glazing, radiators, solar water heating, and we only use electricity from our own solar panels or renewable sources. We only wash bed linen and towels in Ecover washing liquid. We hope that you will find the cottage warm, cosy and comfortable - a respite from the sometimes harsh Northumberland weather.

Guest access
The property is a self-contained 2 bedroomed cottage (the main bedroom has a king sized bed, bed side tables and walk in wardrobe whilst the second bedroom is best suited to children as it is much smaller, with a bunk bed). Downstairs in the living area there are two armchairs and a sofa seating two, and in the dining area a dining table with four chairs. The kitchen is well-equipped with cooker, hob, microwave, fridge (no freezer compartment) and washing machine (no tumble dryer).

The property also benefits from its own enclosed outside gravelled area. The property is designed to enable guests to cater for themselves.

Other things to note
Our minimum stay is three nights. However, if you want to book for three nights but only stay for two nights ie if attending a wedding in Otterburn please contact us as we may be able to offer a discount on the three night price particularly out of season.

Please also note that although most of our bookings are less than a week we are also happy to welcome guests for longer stays (up to three weeks maximum). If you are interested in staying for 7 days or longer, particularly outside the peak summer holiday season, then would be happy to consider offering a discount. Please feel free to message us to enquire about available discounts.

If you're new to Northumberland and have questions about the local area please let us know - we're always happy to make personal recommendations for walks, bike rides and places to visit and places to eat. Please message if you would like our advice.

The main supermarkets will deliver groceries to the property - and if you want to arrange a delivery time pre-arrival the owners are happy to assist - otherwise a small shop providing essential groceries, the Border Reiver, can be found in Otterburn (approx. 2 miles away).

The property has satelllite television reception, and a DVD player is provided. WiFi is also available but given the property's rural setting broadband speeds are not as fast at they well be in urban areas.

We have an EV charger at Raylees Farm. We are happy to afford guests access to this should they need it for top up charges. Please note, however, that we cannot guarantee access to the charger 24/7 or for an extensive time. This charger is attached to the main farmhouse and access through the gateway where the charger is located may be needed. This charger is also used by others as well as cottage guests. Should you wish to make use of this charger to top up it would be helpful if you could let us know before arrival. We will then do everything we can to ensure guests are able to use the charger when they need to do so and have sufficient charge. In addition, there are now many other chargers in the local area should more than just a top up be needed. We are happy to offer advice on where you can find other chargers in Northumberland area so that you can charge up when out and about. If you do need to use the charger to top up then a charge is made to cover the electricity cost to us. We will require this to be paid before departure.

Neighbourhood highlights

At the edge of the Northumberland National Park, a dark skies area, and in the heart of Northumberland, fields of sheep surround the property. However, Elsdon, the nearest village, with the cyclists café and Bird in Bush pub, is only 1 1/4 miles away - an easy drive and a lovely walk. The village of Otterburn is 3 miles away. (NB Elsdon pub and tea shop operate limited hours so please check their websites - do not assume they are open).

Many beautiful walks are possible from the property and in the surrounding area of Northumberland National Park. The property is also only a short drive from Kielder Forest, Hadrians Wall and the market town of Hexham, the beautiful Northumberland coast line and Alnwick Castle
