Guest access

Madampe house is situated just outside Ambalangoda with a frontage onto Madampe lake. Ambalangoda is renowned for the intricaltely carved masks and is also the best place in Sri Lanka for antiques. We are midway between Bentota and Galle - about 30 minutes from both by car or slightly less by rail. The vibrant resort of hikkaduwa is about 10 minutes away by tuk tuk.

This area is perfect for nature lovers - an amazing variety of bird life and a vast array of fish and shellfish are on sale by fishermen at roadside stalls . One a week there is a large market at nearby parrot junction with an array of top quality fruit and veg. that defies description.

We were excited about staying at the house after reading the excellent reviews, but was unsure what it'd be like travelling with three young children (ages 1, 3 & 6). We needn't have worried: the large house and it's beautiful garden, combined with Jayantha and the team cooking and cleaning for us, provided the most relaxing possible. A travel cot was provided and each room had plug in mostiquio repellent but you also need to take the spray to protect yourself. We did a few trips out, the turtle hatchery was a clear favourite with the kids. Jayantha organized taxis and suggested what to do so tripsout were as stress free and happy as they could have been All in all a wonderful holiday, mainly relaxing by the pool, enjoying the inside/outside living of the house. Perfect for little kids. Thank you Anna

A yummy green haven What a wonderful way to have experienced the country. Madampe House is a testament to the hospitality and warmth that we had heard Sri Lanka was known for. Travelling with 3 young kids is never easy but Jayanthra and his team made it a hassle free experience organising the appropriate vehicles and more importantly with safe drivers. From the first email enquiries to us finalising our stay and organising for him to meet us at the airport, along with the day trips and last minute curio shopping needs met (great tips on where to get a good deal by the way), it was all in hand. The location itself is beautifully tucked away in a secluded green haven. What a fantastic sanctuary from it all with even better cooking from the kitchen, go in with an open mind and let them surprise you with their local cuisine. The house is thoughtfully built with some unique features that will surprise you. The surrounding area has much still for us to explore but we enjoyed the lovely beaches, the history of Galle and the arts & crafts available in the local area not to mention the antique shops, felt like we were stepping back in time. Madampe House made this possible Rob & Nat

The house is beautiful and exactly as the pictures are showing on Airbnb. We had the honor to be the first guests and we had a great time! The owner (Jayantha) is very friendly and helpful. He made us feel at home and helped us to settle and to discover the neighborhood. We travelled with our 16 months old daughter and Jayantha tried everything to make her feel at home as well. Every morning a delicious breakfast is organized with fresh fruits, fresh juices, tea, toasts, eggs and sometimes a local specialty. Also an afternoon tea was provided every day with a biscuit or a homemade pancake or something else delicious. We were treated very well and we would definitely recommend anyone to stay in this lovely house. The house is very clean and modern. The mattresses are comfortable, there are mosquito nets, which are needed but also give a romantic feel. The pool is very well maintained and it is very pleasant to swim in it. Overall we would come back and we are very happy we booked this place. The house is located close to a beautiful beach (walking distance) which we didn't go to much because the waves were too high in this time of the year and therefore a little dangerous. We often took a tuktuk to Bentota or Hikkaduwa to have a swim there. Jayantha organized a tour to Galle, a tour to the Elephant orphanage, some sightseeing in Colombo, a boat safari and many other small trips for us. We would definitely recommend to see something of the environment, because Sri Lanka is beautiful and has pleasantly surprised us. But also to stay at home and chill out is very pleasant in this lovely home.
