The space

Accommodation on Exmoor cannot be found in more delightful surroundings than Porlock. . Approached via a narrow lane, behind the 13th century church, Marley Cottage is in a secluded yet central location. Dating back to the late Victorian era, the cottage is the end terrace of six properties originally built as homes for local boat builders. Recently renovated, Marley Cottage has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished to create an inviting holiday home, with a pretty south facing seating area. To the front, the cottages share a pedestrian right of way for access. Weekly guests normally arrive on Saturday. I can sometimes be flexible for a Sunday arrival. A lovely cottage very clean and well equipped. The house is in a great location and whilst I didn't find parking my Discovery a problem navigating the narrow lane is a challenge! As the description says the neighbours have right of way through the garden which is not a problem as they are all very pleasant and polite but can be an issue if you are expecting any pet to be able to roam in a secure garden. Finally the house whilst beautiful is small and whilst we were fine with 3 of us and a baby, I guess if there were 6 adults (it has 6 beds) you may find it a little on the small side. All that said we had a really enjoyable holiday and my wife and I would certainly return to Marley Cottage.

The cottage is just as described. It is clean, comfortable, very well equipped and located in a busy coastal community. There is plenty to do locally - with a great museum if you are interested in history and beautiful countryside and beaches to explore further afield.

We had a lovely stay at Marley Cottage in Porlock (party of 4 adults) in August 2017 and have no hesitations in recommending it to future guests! The cottage is just a few minutes walk from the centre of the village (several pubs and tearooms, a butchers, pharmacy, post office, and two well-stocked convenience stores which even had fresh bread, local cheese, scones and the like), but the location is nonetheless incredibly quiet and peaceful - I think all we really heard were seagulls and pigeons! The cottage is about a 20-30 minute walk from the shingle beach at Porlock Marsh, and there are plenty of other footpaths to discover (we walked to Bossington, and to Porlock Weir in the other direction). The nearest supermarkets are Tesco and Morrisons in Minehead (10-15 minute drive). The cottage is very nicely furnished and was perfectly clean and tidy on our arrival. The kitchen is well equipped, although we felt that 6 adults might struggle if they were planning to cook/eat in most nights as we did. We were there for 2 weeks, so having a washing machine and tumble dryer was useful. WIFI access also appreciated! There's also a small garden at the back of the cottage with a patio table and chairs, so if you're lucky with the weather, you can sit out and eat. Final comment - do take note of Stephen's advice that the access lane to the cottage is very narrow! That said, we managed to get up and down in a Vauxhall Astra, so were able to park at the cottage rather than in the Pay&Display car park in the village (£5 per day in the long stay car park).

This house was a pleasure to stay in. Everything was done well. The kitchen is light in the morning and was stocked with pots and pans and utensils. The beds had fresh linens. It is conveniently located within about 3 min walk from grocery on high street.

We've just returned from a lovely week in Porlock in this beautiful cottage. Our expectations were high from the other reviews and we weren't disappointed. The cottage is quite simply gorgeous, extremely comfortable and well equipped - a real home from home. The location is perfect for accessing the bustling village of Porlock as well as exploring stunning Exmoor. We were surrounded by peace and tranquillity and left with batteries fully charged. Perfect!

Lovely charming cottage in centre of pretty Porlock. Tight access for car, but I have a seven seater and managed it ok. Ideal base for exploring Exmoor. Worth a visit.
