Located in a centuries-old building, steps from an ancient Etruscan village in the heart of Tuscany, our newly renovated apartment boasts modern conveniences and Old World charm. Come enjoy authentic Tuscany, away from the crowds.

The space

When we moved back to Alberto's Tuscan hometown from New York City, we wanted to restore his family's property without sacrificing hot showers and mod cons. So we renovated both our family home and this apartment the same way: with respect for the past and appreciation for modern amenities. Exposed beams, lots of windows, dishwasher, washing machine, and strong water pressure are just some of the ways we've created a space that allows our guests to feel at home in our little village. The apartment has one bedroom with a queen-size bed plus a comfy couch bed that sleeps two more. We are child friendly, and there are swings, a slide, and a sandbox available on the property. There is also a private outdoor area for our guests, it includes table, seating, and grill.

Our location is unique in that we are very private, located at the end of a dead-street, but still only a short walk from the village, which has shopping, two restaurants, cafes, bakeries, three small grocery stores, and an amazing coffee vendor. Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, and San Gimignano are all less than an hour away. Even closer is the gorgeous hilltop town of Volterra and the famous hot springs of Casciana Terme (spa open year-round).

Amenities such as a washing machine, dishwasher, and coffeemaker are in the apartment, convenient off-street parking is provided. Wi-Fi is included and available in the apartment as well as some outdoor areas.

We invite you to explore our private land, walk through olive groves and short trails or enjoy a glass of local wine while the kids check out our swing set and slide. Our guests are welcome to roam.

The apartment is located in a large building once used for agricultural purposes. It has a private entrance and is in one portion of the building, our home is in the other. We are happy to answer questions or help with planning excursions and hunting down pottery.

Life at the top of the hill offers beautiful views of Volterra and surrounding farmland. Watch the sun rise behind Volterra in the morning and at dusk listen to the jingling bells of the sheep trotting home over the hills. Eat a cherry off our trees or find asparagus in spring, check out the grapes and wine festival in fall; year-round you can make the short walk into town or the half-hour drive to the beach. We have restaurants, cafes, two public swimming pools, more local wineries than you can shake a stick at, and unspoiled Tuscan charm in our slightly off-the-beaten-track village.

Guest access

We live on the property and we're happy to share whatever guests would like to use.

Other things to note

We have two apartments available to rent, both have a private entrance and are located in the same big building where we have our home. Just let me know if you'd like both apartments to accommodate a larger group. Together they sleep up to ten people.

Don't look any further, this is the best spot we've stayed at in a while. Wonderful people, vistas, food, weather and all in all a fabulous place to spend time. We would go back in a heartbeat.

The house on the hill is the nicest Airbnb we have ever stayed in. The location is calm, beautiful, and comfortable. The access to vineyards and cities is excellent via car. The apartment itself is gorgeous-tastefully decorated, fully functional, and super romantic. This place was a highlight of the summer. Very much recommended.

Had a wonderful time at Madeline's place for a 10-day stay. Complaints that are often related to Airbnb properties - lack of parking, amenities, space, cleanliness - are all absent here. The apartment is so stylish and comfortable, it's nice to just hang out there when you need a break from travelling around. Madeline and her family are super friendly, there when you need them but very observant of your privacy, too. And Madeline has great tips for visitors. Terricciola is a cute town and off the beaten path. The scenery is outstanding, and you can be in the Chianti region or on the coast in about an hour. Highly recommend this property!

Madelines house on the hill was exactly as described and pictures suggest. Lovey secluded home. Close to several wineries, one we even walked to. We walked a short distance to local restaurant for evening meals a few times we were there. Madeline was very helpful and accommodating while we were there, she helped us with train schedules to Florence and where to park at the train stations. Overall a wonderful place and host family.

Madeline's and Alberto's place in Terricciola is like a dream! Clean, has everything you need- dishwasher, washing machine etc. We loved the bathrooˇ with a lovely view and rays of tuscany sunshine. The neighbours are friendly as is the whole village, there is a local coffee maker and a great local resto right down the road. We were cycling every day and Madeline's place felt like home to us!

We spent a fantastic week at Madeline's place, one of the best experiences we had so far with Airbnb. The house is an ancient stone building renovated with good taste. It has big spaces, not crowded with furniture, carpets, little nice things, but somehow it still managed to be comfortable and to provide everything we needed. The hosts are friendly and always available when help or advice is needed. We highly recommend staying at 'Our house on the hill', and if we go back to Tuscany we'll surely choose this place again.

Madeline and Alberto were absolutley wonderful hosts! The apartment is in a beautifully restored 17th century Tuscan farmhouse, and has all amenities - fully equipped kitchen, huge bathtub, cool tent-cot for our youngest. The surrounding area is paradise for kids and adults alike - orchards, olive groves and a laurel forest. Our boys had a wonderful time here, and had some great playtimes with Madeline and Alberto's kids. It is in easy driving distance of all the most beautiful places in Tuscany - during our week there, we visited Volterra, Pisa and Florence. San Gimignano is also nearby. We will definitely come back, and we would warmly recommend staying here, especially if you want your kids to have a beautiful holiday in wonderful natural surroundings. Absolutely top notch!
