This small 2-story house mixes tatami and western comfort. It has a great location right next to the Kamogawa River. Next to trains, buses, and all sorts of great restaurants, this cozy home is the perfect base for discovering all of Kyoto!

Demachi 2 House is a snug little two-story house. The ground floor has a kitchen with a western table. The kitchen is also equipped with everything you need to do some light cooking, including a rice cooker, gas stovetop and pots and pans, and a few condiments such as oil and soy sauce.

The second room is a tatami room with a low table, where you can sprawl out after a long day and just relax.

The toilet and bathroom (complete with a Japanese style bath and a washing machine) are just past the tatami room.

The upper level has two tatami mat bedrooms, with Japanese futons that you can unfurl at night. There is also a small balcony--with a view of a big temple--where you can dry your laundry if needed.

When you rent Demachi 2 House, the entire house is yours. You will be able to live as if you are spending time in your very own Japanese home.

At the beginning and the end of your stay, we will be there to greet you.

When you arrive, we like to be waiting for you at the house so that we can show you around, explaining everything, and also so that we can help you get oriented around the city. We'll provide you with maps of the city and the bus, and we can mark local shops and restaurants, as well as answer any questions you may have.

This is located in the Demachi-yanagi neighborhood. Just by walking down the street, you'll instantly be at the Kamo River, which is lined with cherry trees, right at its delta where it splits in two, the perfect place for a picnic or some sunbathing.

The neighborhood is just in between Doshisha and Kyoto Universities, so there's lots of great restaurants very close by, as well as all kinds of other conveniences.

You're also just around the corner from the Keihan train line, which runs past Gion, Fushimi Inari, and then heads all the way down into Osaka in about an hour.
There are also several convenient bus lines to take you across the rest of Kyoto as you see all the sights!

It's really easy to get to downtown and Gion, as well as the station and many other areas, from this neighborhood.

There is no smoking in the house or on the street outside of the house, so as not to upset the neighbors. Thank you!

Thank you, Nikki and Clément. And for people who may concern, I write this review after the end of my nine-days Kansai trip, which including staying in 3 different Japanese style houses, so I can have an objective comment for this house. Firstly, this is the cleanest house that we have stayed during this trip. Facilities and quite new and all in perfect condition. Moreover, It is not at the down town of Kyoto but the bus station and subway station both are in a three minutes walking distance from this house. One more thing, Clément turned on the ACs before our arriving, which makes us less freezes. Thanks amigo, we really appreciate it. However, the winter of Kyoto is insane, maybe you can consider to upgrade the AC. All in all, this is the best guest house I have lived recently, I highly recommend this house for you. If you are planning a Kyoto trip, just book it.

Hi! I have lived in Kyoto since 2010, and before that I was a student here too. I love everything about Kyoto, from the history to the surrounding nature, the great food and kind locals. I originally moved here as an English teacher, but now I work for the Kyoto team of a travel company that focuses on all aspects of travel in Japan, including rental houses.

Originally founded in Paris in the early 1980s, today we have expanded internationally to offer customers worldwide all the necessities for the perfect vacation in Japan.

We're especially proud of our rental houses in Kyoto (as well as in Tokyo and Kanazawa). We offer houses in beautiful residential areas of Kyoto, including the neighborhoods surrounding Gion, Yoshida Shrine, the Philosopher's Path, and the Kyoto University/Demachiyanagi area. Our houses range in size and style, from the most traditional of machiya to houses that focus more on western comforts.

When you stay with us, you're met at the house by one of our Travel Angels, multilingual locals who will introduce the intricacies of your Japanese house and the details of daily life, as well as provide advice on getting around Kyoto during your time here. They'll be in touch with you to organize your arrival, and you can ask as many questions as you need about the house or your travels.

We hope to see you in Kyoto soon!
