The space

Simple, furnished room (10 sqm) in a small castle, inmidst an idyllic village, 25 km South of Munich, close to the famous lake Starnberg with drinking water quality.

Next door there is a toilet and showers, and a kitchen for shared use.
The kitchen and bath rooms are always clean and never overcrowded.

High quality matrass, plus optional add. beds for further persons.

Almost all rooms have got new white furniture in 2014 and have been refurbished.

Guest access

Free automobile parking in front of our house. There is a partly-covered area for bicycles.
Access in and out of the castle any time, day or night, through separate front door.

We will clean all shared facilities (kitchen/toilets etc.) twice-daily.
Also, a washing machine is available.

The neighbourhood

Our house is a very nice Art Nouveau manor house, called "Schloss Mörlbach“, next to a 500-year-old, late-Gothic church. In front of the house is a nice, small lake and behind we have a (5,000 square meter) garden with old trees.
Children can use the longest private zip line (flying fox) in Germany, as well as a trampoline and swings in the garden.
Mörlbach is a small village with Celtic roots, framed with trees and small lakes. Around 180 residents live in our village, including 50 children -- plus 25 dogs, 30 cats, 32 cows, 7 Alpacas (Lamas) and 8 Horses.
Sight-seeing – Places of Interest:
5 to 20 minutes: Bismarckturm (Berg), Schloß Possenhofen, river Isar with locations to swim (Icking), next to the lakes and the big Lake Starnberg, Buchheim-Museum in Bernried, Seeburg am Starnberger See, old Roman villages.
30 to 60 minutes: Kings Castles of Ludwig II, Abbey Ettal, Oberammergau (passion play), Garmisch-Partenkirchen with Zugspitze and Eibsee, Abbey Andechs with Biergarten, Munich and much more.

Getting around

Train to/from Munich: S 7 / Station Icking: 3 min. by car, 10 min. bike (we rent out bikes), 5 by bus.

Place is really calm, clean, and very relaxing. Gundel and franz are really nice and friendly people, they made my stay way smoother. The castle is bit far away from munich, i faced few difficulties in going there on daily basis as it needs 15 minutes by bike to the train station, and another 40-45 minutes to munich central station by S-bahn; But perhaps if you use your car or a cab it would be much easier. Place is highly recommended if your planning to stay away from the city noises.

Fantastic experience staying at this castle. Everything is just like as described. The view from room is amazing and the zip line was just over the top. I arrived at the castle past midnight, walking from Icking station under the moonlight. It was one of those experiences I'll never forget.

We didn't get to meet Gundel. However we did meet several other people staying there and all were great. The place was perfect for our couple days of exploring the area. It is as described and we would come back and stay longer next time. Thank-you Gundel.

Castle-a-like enormous villa turned into a hostel. Our room was beautiful with THREE BEAUTIFUL WINDOWS on the lake side. The toilet and the bathroom were always clean even if there were many guests in the house. There's also a big garden (and playground) that we would have definitely enjoyed more if it wasn't rainy. Franz was fast and available when we checked in.

We didn't meet Gundel during our stay. However, we did enjoy talking to residents and other travellers. The room was as described, clean and tidy and the location was convenient for the places we wanted to visit.
