The space

Historic brownstone on peaceful tree-lined street, oozing charm with fireplace, hardwood floors, chandelier, and clawfoot tub. Bright and sunny apt with bedroom windows looking into trees over street and living room window looking out over garden. Only a 2 minute walk to Central Park, a shorter walk to Morningside Park, and only 1 block to subway, and plenty of great neighborhood bars and restaurants. Convenient to Columbia University -- PERFECT FOR COLUMBIA STUDENTS! This is a very safe area and has a wonderful, authentic neighborhood feel. Fully furnished and nice roommate...I'm a Columbia graduate student. You: nice, neat, preferably employed, easygoing.

It takes about 10 minutes on the subway to get to midtown, and has super easy access from La Guardia Airport on the M60 bus, and from JFK on the A/C subway line. If you have a car, street parking is quite easy in this area, or if you prefer to pay for a garage there is one on the very same block.

There is a very comfortable Queen Size Canopy bed in your private bedroom, Full kitchen, microwave, stove/oven, toaster, juicer, all necessary flatware and supplies. Bathroom has a beautiful clawfoot tub and is a decent size. Bike available for use. Television in Living Room, and there is a wireless Internet connection in Apt. There is an iPod connectable sound system in the living room too!

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Matthew was hospitable, and provided clear and timely communication on the run up to our stay. The apartment is nice and well appointed. Terrific location for Columbia or catching the subway. Bedroom perhaps better suited for one rather than two persons, but it worked out fine. Would stay again.

I felt comfortable while staying his house. There are some facilities which I wanted to use. I was sleeping well with an air condition and fan. Thank you.

I stayed at Matthew's place for nearly a month, and he was a very gracious host. The place came as advertised (what you see is what you get) and his recommendations for the neighborhood were useful. His place is located about five blocks north of the northwest corner of Central Park and only one block away from an entrance to the B/C subway line.

For me it was a good variant when I arrived in NYC on the labor day weekend and didn't know where to stay (it wasn't so easy to find a not bad place to stay at a good price then). The apartments are good enough and as described, also clean and cozy, the interior is pleasant. The bedroom isn't very spacious (without closet and table) and a little bit dusty. I should say that the host doesn't provide clean linens so be prepared. The WiFi worked well. The bed is big and comfortable. Matthew was away on the day I came but I hadn't any problems to get inside (we met on the next day). It seemed to me that the host wasn't very hospitable or open and we didn't talk a lot. The neighbourhood isn't perfect, but OK for NY. The central park and the subway station are close enough. There are also some shops so everything is convenient. After all I think that it is a good choice for travelers who want to see NYC and who are going to spent most of the time outside. Just negotiate about clean bedclothes and use of the kitchen. The price is OK.

Matthew was a fantastic host, and the apartment was beautiful. The area was great, I felt safe, even walking from the subway to the apartment late at night. Which is pleasant because it is a very short walk. Probably my biggest regret is because I was out and about so often I didn't get to chat with Matthew, because he seems like a really interesting guy. The place is safe, the bed is great, the apartment is swanky, and the host is gracious. I couldn't imagine a better place to have stayed while in New York.
