We had a wonderful time staying at Bob and Sue's home. Sue graciously gave us a tour of the main house plus the rich history. The apartment was very private and so much more than we hoped for, so charming! Our last morning, she set an outdoor garden table for us so we could provide breakfast for my daughter and her boyfriend. We are so grateful for this lovely morning.
Loved our stay at the the Cottage. Great basement level apartment, loved the atmosphere and a quiet place to rest after adventuring out into Portland and the Columbia River Gorge. Sue and Bob were marvelous hosts! Loved not only staying with them but getting to know them as well. They were welcoming and warm, giving us recommendations for grocery stores, places to eat, and fun things to do in and around Portland.
The house itself is great and has such a unique history!
I would highly recommend Sue and Bob as hosts to any friends or family headed to the pacific northwest!
Bob and Sue were amazing hosts. Their home is absolutely stunning, while being cozy and welcoming. They provided valuable local information and were available if we needed them. Very well located, easy to find, and beautiful. If this isn't the best rental in Portland I'd be shocked.
Thanks Ken! Sue and very much appreciate your review. We do our best to provide a cozy, comfortable and relaxing place for our guests and we truly enjoy hosting people like yourselves. We are always looking for way to make our guests visit memorable. Hope you keep us in mind the next time you head west!
We were welcomed by Bob and Snowball (aka Weasel), the cat.
Wonderfully warm and helpful.
Our first experience with Airbnb and we are probably spoiled.
The cottage is more lovely than pictured. The outside patios, and beautiful gardens. Every convenience available. This is a place we would certainly return to.
Thanks Lana, It was a true pleasure to meet and chat with you and Roger. We are so glad that your first experience with Airbnb was so positive. Sue and I work hard to provide a comfortable and inviting environment for our guests. We enjoy sharing our patios, courtyard and English garden with our guests. Our goal is for our guests to be pleasantly surprised when they stay for their first visit. Thanks so much for choosing to stay with us! We hope to see you again in the future when you return to Portland.
Sue and Bob, along with their home, exceeded our expectations with how welcoming, generous, beautiful and accommodating their home was. We were warmly welcomed into their front door to receive a small tour of their historic home and then shown the apartment we were renting. We were surprised to find a bottle of champagne on ice with glasses, waiting for us in our kitchenette (we told them upon booking the room that is was our honeymoon), so sweet. They had everything we needed in their well appointed apartment. One of the best neighborhoods in Portland, on a beautiful street. We highly recommend staying here (but only if you are under 6'5" because the ceilings are short!). Thanks again for the great experience!
Thanks Brian! We make every effort to make our guests feel special and we were happy to give you a little something extra, knowing that you were on your honeymoon. We are lucky to live in the middle of one of Portland's most desirable neighborhoods and better yet to be the stewards of what many people have said is one of the most charming homes in Laurelhurst. Congratulations on your marriage! Perhaps you will return sometime on your anniversary sometime. Let us know and we will have another bottle of Champagne waiting for you! All the Best Bob & Sue
The property is in an awesome location if you don't mind a brisk walk or driving a short distance. Laurelhurst Park is a stones throw away which is great for running or simply strolling. The room is a basement space which for the price seems a bit off. I would recommend this wonderful space to anyone visiting portland for a brief period.
Barry, Your are right we do have an great location, just 3 blocks from Laurelhurst Park, minutes from downtown Portland, public transportation close by and a beautiful neighborhood just to take a walk through. We do provide a very comfortable and inviting living space. This apartment is a result of our efforts to make a place for ourselves to live which we did for 6 months while our main kitchen was being made over. Based on other previous guests comments and reviews we think we have succeeded in providing a great place at a very reasonable rate. All the Best! Bob & Sue
Bob and Sue were amazing, gracious hosts, and it was a true privilege and joy to spend time in their beautiful, cozy home.
Thanks John, Sue and I enjoy hosting our guests and are always happy to show our guests our home and to provide a great place for them to stay. We are sensitive to peoples interests, whether they want their own time alone, to come and go without notice or to talk with us to get ideas as to places to go or eat. We always offer our courtyards, garden, BBQ for their use if they like. We frequently have had our guests invite other members of their family who live in Portland to come over and enjoy what we have to offer. Thanks again John.
About the Host, Sue And Bob
We live in a historic home in Laurelhurst, in Portland. Sue is a retired principal and Bob retired from the big aerospace company in Seattle (Boeing). Sue has a passion for decorating and gardening (is very creative and good at both), Bob is into art and also enjoys and appreciates creating and living in a tasteful environment. We both enjoy entertaining, hosting frequent social gatherings in our home in our English garden or just having friends over for a "glass" of wine. We also have a house on the Oregon Coast that we love and enjoy sharing with family and friends and that is also available for short term rental. We stay constantly busy with our "projects" spending time with the grandchildren, try to fit some time in for a little golf and getting away for a few days from time to time. Now that we have joined "airbnb" we might just find an excuse to getaway a little more.
As hosts we would be happy to invite our guests for a tour of our historic home, sit with us and enjoy a glass of wine in front of the inglenook fireplace or on the patio in the garden. If our guests prefer to left alone we are sensitive to that as well. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, comfortable, and tasteful environment for our guests, and possibly develop new friendships.
As guests we appreciate friendly, but sensitive to our privacy, hosts that provides a clean, comfortable environment that makes us feel at home. We also appreciate hosts that provide recommendations and insight into places to visit and things to do.
As to a life motto we both think that, Live, Love, Laugh and Learn is how we approach life.
