About this listing

The space

Hello,

We are located in the south suburbs of Athens, less than 5 minutes walk from the underground station, providing easy access to the city centre within 12 minutes.

We offer a very comfortable and homely double/triple (air-conditioned) room (30sqm) in a charming Bed & Breakfast in the southern suburbs of Athens. The room has an independent entrance as well as direct access to our beautiful garden where our guests can relax and enjoy the renowned Greek sun throughout their stay. The room has a private en-suite with shower and a private area which can accommodate 1 more bed upon request. A fridge is also provided in this area.

Our garden is perfect for quality time in the sun or under the shade of our citrus trees, perhaps relaxing in the hammock with one of our complimentary iced teas or coffees. There are also BBQ facilities available to use if you wish. Along with the many trees and flowers in the garden we have also grown one of the first urban farms in Athens!

Furthermore, we are close to beautiful Athens coast (2-3 km) which is ideal for walks and bicycle-rides. A number of cafes, restaurants and bars can be found within a short 10 minute walk (0.5 km). We are also in close proximity (2-3 km) to:
* numerous beautiful beaches
* the Athens Golf Club
* the Go-Kart Centre
* the Agios Kosmas Olympic Complex
* Glyfada; the stylish shopping & entertainment centre of the south suburbs of Athens

A generous and delicious continental breakfast can be provided upon request (5 Euros per-person), and on warm days can be enjoyed out in the garden. Guests can also enjoy Greek, traditional home-cooked dinners with fresh ingredients (either from our seasonal organic garden or from our local farmer market) at a cost of 12 Euros per-person which includes our organic, home-made wine. The meals vary depending on the season but we guarantee that they will always be healthy, plentiful and delicious.

Our Bed & Breakfast is ideal for people who want to enjoy both the historic centre of Athens along with the lesser known charms of the surrounding areas. We are happy to provide advice on and assistance with the organisation of fantastic day-trips to numerous historic, cultural and natural attractions in the surrounding areas of Athens (including nearby islands).

We always enjoy meeting new people from all over the world and being introduced to their culture. As an exchange, we hope to provide a fantastic stay in Athens for all of our guests with good-old style Greek hospitality.

Thank you for your interest. We are looking forward to hopefully meeting you sometime soon.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Free private parking available.

Maika is a keen home-cook who likes to blend traditional Greek cooking with a modern twist. The seasonal produce from our veggie garden encourages her cooking experimentation with outstanding results. Guests in our B&B may get to enjoy complementary homemade treats such as our ice-cold organic lemonade, our bergamot liqueur, our seasonal jams, fruit and vegetable salads. It all depends on what’s been cooked and the vibe of the day!

Besides any complementary treat there is the option to enjoy a generous and delicious breakfast and dinner while staying with us.

Breakfast with us (5 Euros per-person):

Our guests have the ability to have a hearty breakfast under the shade of the trees in our beautiful back garden. Our breakfast includes:

* Tea or Coffee
* Fresh sour-dough bread from our local baker (should try his desserts too)
* A selection of home-made jams/marmalades/honeys etc.
* Cereal/Muesli with milk
* An egg
* A cheese & ham toastie
* Fruit juice

Dinner with us (12 Euros per-person).

In the evening Maika lights up the garden with little candle lanterns making it the perfect spot to enjoy a warm Greek summer evening. Guests can have dinner on a private candle-lit table or join us on a larger table for some greet-style feasting! Our dinner includes:

* A selection of appetisers
* A main meal
* Salad and bread accompanying the main meal
* Dessert
* Plenty of our home-made organic wine

Many of the ingredients are sourced from our veggie patch, or through the produce of family and friends. As a result, the meals tend to be very seasonal. An example summer dinner would include:

* Cheese pasties, leek and bacon pasties and stuffed vine leaves (dolmades)
Mousaka
* Greek salad and sour-dough bread
* Chilled white wine
* Semolina halva with Greek-yogurt cream

If you decide to try out our breakfast or dinner all we ask is to tell us a day in advance.

I had a great stay at this place. Maika and Dimitri are wonderful hosts. A refreshing and selfmade lemonade was provided to me upon arrivsl and Dimitri provided a lot of information about what to do and where to go. The house itself is located in a quiet area and close (in walking distance) to the metro, which is a big plus. Also I was able to park my motorbike safely in the backyard. The room itself was spotlessly clean and had everything it needed. It is true that the bed does make a bit of a noise but this didn't bother me at all. I would also like to mention that I needed to wash my clothes and Dimitri was so kind to do it for me while I could explore the city. All in all I had a wunderful stay and can highly recommend this host.

I chose the veggie garden based on past reviews, and because of its location. I am often in Athens, and am working my way around the various neighbourhoods, using airbnb. During this visit my wife and daughter accompanied me. The photos and past reviews led me to choose this home. I was under the impression that the lounge, dining room and kitchen were all part of the flat, but in fact what you are renting are two rooms located in the basement. The other rooms are upstairs but can only be accessed from the garden. We wouldn't have felt comfortable using this space. We spent our time in the flat, or the garden. Previous reviewers raved about the hosts, but we had very little interaction with them. Maika served us breakfast (3 mornings) and short of the basic pleasantries, we had no interaction as we don't speak Greek, and she spoke very little English. The breakfasts were as described, tasty and well worth it in our opinion. The location is as described, a very pleasant southern Athens neighbourhood. The buildings aren't stacked up, streets are tree lined and there is a feeling of space that some other areas in Athens don't have. I timed the metro walk at 8 minutes, walking at a comfortable pace. Fast walkers could do it in 5. The Athens Metro is fantastic, cheap and clean and from where we were, you can be at Syntagma in 15-20 minutes, depending on how full the train is. There are quite a few restaurants within 10-15 min. walking distance, in the center of town. We tried a souvlakia and a fish restaurant, both had good food and value for money. There is also a supermarket and bakery in the center of town. Some of the things we weren't wild about. The size of the bed. It is a double, but I'm guessing around 1,20 m wide. We are used to 1,80-2,00 m width so needless to say neither my wife nor I had one decent nights sleep (none of the other airbnb's that I have stayed in in Athens have had such a small bed). It also had an annoying creak, which meant every time one of us turned around or got up, the other was awake. There was a kettle and a fridge, but since there was no plug at the fridge that we could see, the kettle spent it's time being boiled on the floor. We had to ask for cups, and bought our own tea and milk. There is a nice small table with some chairs outside, but since we were there in April, it got chilly at night, leaving us spending the evenings sitting on the bed inside, when we weren't out and about. The TV didn't work (tested by my daughter) but on the plus side, the internet was fast, stable and reliable. The bathroom was the most modern that I have seen in Greece, with great water pressure, albeit tiny. The extractor...

Response from Stelios & Maika:
Dear Sir / Madam, We are very sorry you did not fully enjoyed our hospitality to the maximum extend. We take pride and satisfaction in doing our best to ensure our guests enjoy their stay with us and their holidays in Athens. As it can be seen in the uploaded photos (most of them are verified by aibnb), we provide lower ground rooms, not in the basement, and have direct access to the garden by a fullsize French door. Moreover, the rooms are rather large, with two adjacent areas (one with a double bed, and one with a single), while their size is mentioned in our descriptions. Moreover, each room has a proper double bed (not queen or kind size as the ones you are referring too). In order to avoid future confusion we will add the dimensions of the bed in the room description. Furthermore, I would like to thank you for letting us know about the bed noise, which has been fixed. If it was mentioned during your visit, please rest assure we would have immediately attended and fix the problem. Very similarly with the TV, which incidentally has been a simple setting. Finally, as with the room photos, the living room photos are also verified by aibnb. The living room is a common area available to all our guests, and can be accessed either from the main entrance and the garden. In no description we mention that the living room is part of a specific room, while it is rather it can be easily concluded that a 120sqm living room cannot be part of a room on that particular price range. Best regards Dimitris

This place is close to a metro station, 10 minutes walk. Maika serves a nice Breakfast in the garden. It is a good place to relax, but at the other end it is far away from the city buzz.

My friends and I enjoyed our stay. The home is pretty close to the metro (about 10 minutes walking) and it is in a residential area that is away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The garden was one of our favorite parts to the home. We enjoyed sitting outside after a long day of exploring Athens.

Maika and her son Dimitri really are amazing hosts. Full of great advice (we especially loved the bakery the recommended). The hosts have sadly lost a family member very recently and I cannot believe their hosting abilities at this very sad time. Thank you for having us, we are still thinking of you at this sad time. I think these guys will bend over backwards to make sure you have everything you need. But still insuring you have your privacy. The room is private and has good furniture and your own hide away outside with a washing line, table and chairs or you can go up the stairs to sit in the garden. There is a place to park your car, which is wonderful. The area has loads of restaurants in walking distance. We went to a fish restaurant on the first night, was a good experience and then the Suvlaki (wrong spelling I am sure) restaurant on second night which had good simple Greek food and sports on the tv screens, my husband loved it so he can watch the football. Anyway we recommend staying here, good value for money.

I have spent 4 days in Stelios & Maika's house with my boyfriend and we had a great time! The house is very nice and comfortable with a cool garden outside. The room itself is clean, nice and very big with a huge terrace. The house is well located for both the seaside or the city center. Stelios & Maika are very kind and helpful. We also had a great dinner there! I really recommend this accomodation!

We are Maika and Stelios, a Greek couple in their 50s who love travelling and hosting. We have recently fully renovated our Athens home introducing a new veggie-patch. Having 2 spare rooms and many years of hosting experience, it seemed like a natural progression to run our home as a B&B. We have been operating as a B&B since 2011 with guests from all over the world.

Maika is a keen home-cook who blends traditional Greek cooking with a modern twist. The seasonal produce from our garden encourages cooking experimentation with outstanding results. Besides the available breakfast and dinner options, many guests get to enjoy tasty complementary treats throughout their stay. More importantly, they get to enjoy the treats under the shade of the trees in our beautiful garden.

We always enjoy meeting new people and being introduced to their culture. As an exchange, we hope to provide a fantastic stay in Athens for all of our guests with good old-style Greek hospitality.
