Fully furnished. Cozy Living Room, w/ Futon Couch/(extra Bed), complete Eat-In Kitchen. The LR & Kitchen each have a window, + sunlight trickles down the private Spiral Stair. Upstairs, a spectacular Bedroom has ELEVEN windows. Super Location! Try it on for size. We are open to renting our furnished apartments to long term guests at lower rates.

The space

This is a c. 1908 building. There have been over a century of modifications, some fabulous, some not. It has all new storm & screen windows and hardwood floors.
The location is desirable.
Bi-levels are rare and coveted.
The tenants in other apartments in this building are long-term, youngish, and mostly affiliated with Ph.D. programs at U.Penn.
The kitchen is about 20 years old, (clean but not fabulous). There is a new stove. Tthe curtains are "sheers" with basic shades. Those who find dazzling light restorative, will love this place. Those who want "black-out shades" should take something else.

Guest access

This apartment contains anything a reasonable person would need to live comfortably in a new city. I can provide provide Linens and starter soaps+.

Interaction with guests

Possibly just by text or e-mail. I live nearby, but do not offer concierge services. I can arrange a Lock Box for easier access at odd times. I will leave a "guidebook" of instructions and things to do.

Other things to note

Every tenant has loved this space. A few have even replicated some parts, when they move on to their own, more permanent, "nests".

We (a young couple) stayed in the apartment for a month - and we loved it! The apartment is just the right size for 2 people, fully equipped (we enjoy cooking and baking, so we were very happy with the inventory of the kitchen) and it even has a spiral staircase! :) Liz was a really responsive and attentive host, who helped with all the questions we had. We hope other tenants will enjoy the apartment as much as we did.

We enjoyed staying at Elizabeth's apartment. It was very clean and simply but beautifully decorated. It is an old building but the apartment is well maintained and the upstairs area is very peaceful. The location worked out very well for us to visit both our family and to easily tour Philly on public transit. Also, There is a good selection of restaurants and groceries with in easy walking distance. The apartment worked out well for us traveling with our baby and six year old but I wouldn't suggest it for a toddler because of the spirals staircase. Otherwise though it makes a great place to stay ones Philly adventure and get a good night sleep. Very glad we chose to stay here instead of a hotel.

Elizabeth met me at her apartment and was very welcoming from the first. She drove my hubby and me to the hospital! She left me treats, flowers, and encouraging messages. So sweet. The apartment is in a lovely Victorian building in a quiet residential neighborhood. Not fancy, but very clean, neat, and comfortable. A quiet get-away site.

Thank you for choosing my apartment, Linda. I hope Bob continues to improve.

The place is very nice. It was very clean and it has a lot of natural light during the day, which is great. Everything in the apartment was working perfectly. The neighborhood is a nice one, especially going south until Chester Av. Be sure to try one of the good places to eat and drink nearby - I especially enjoyed Dock Street Brewing Company and the restaurant Aksum. Liz is the nicest person, always making sure that everything is alright with her guest. I stayed here during my very first days in Philly (moving here from Rio de Janeiro) and have to say that it was great to be so well taken care of in a completely new city. In short, I had a great experience staying here!

We had a great experience with Elizabeth. She texted and emailed with us ahead of time, checked in with us on the day of our arrival, and stayed in excellent touch to make sure that we had everything we needed. The apartment was lovely and well appointed, in the very cool University City neighborhood. This is a great place to base yourself for a Philly visit!

Response from Elizabeth:
Dear Angela, I was glad that we could host your extended family. You were easy guests. I love knowing that AirBnB helps families, stay together, because it provides lower cost, same neighborhood housing options. I worry there may be a small impact upon hotels, but so far, I've seen a lot of extra people visiting our city, and for longer stays. I know local economy, nearby stores and restaurants have benefitted from our guests

Stayed at Elizabeth's place for 4 nights in June. The neighborhood was great. The place is very accurately shown in the pictures. Even though the place was old, we had everything we needed. Elizabeth provided many toiletries and sent additional towels and toilet paper as we needed. Though, the place definitely needs some renovations. There is no A/C downstairs, so generally it is not as cool downstairs as it gets upstairs. Extremely slow wi-fi connection! Elizabeth was kind enough to send fresh flowers and chocolate biscuits as a gift during our stay, which we appreciated a lot! However, mind the check-in and check-out times as Liz is very strict with them. We asked for an extension for check-out and she told us that there was another reservation in the afternoon and the place was going to be cleaned then. We forgot something at the apartment and asked to go back in the afternoon, the place was not rented and not cleaned even though we had left earlier than the mentioned check-out time. So apparently we could have easily been accommodated for an extension in the afternoon as we desperately needed to stay in the city. Would prefer staying elsewhere because of the problems with wi-fi connection, Liz's lack of flexibility, and the price!

Response from Elizabeth:
Dear Zeynep, I was flexible on the front end and let you in early. At the back-end, I had another guest coming in. My cleaner says he swung by at 11 AM, and you were still inside, so I ended up doing the cleaning, myself, in a rush, later in the day, after a full work day. Lucky for you, we were late, as you still had access to the apartment to retrieve the phone charger you left behind. I am surprised to hear the Wi-Fi connection was slow. No other guest, under the new FIOS system, had made a complaint. Speed may have been affected by the bad weather, as the router and FIOS connection are both new, (but not tested by me). I will check into it. I am happy for the income, but also agree that you choosing somewhere else might make us both happier. I was not delighted with the condition of the apartment, and since I had to clean it myself, I was very aware of the 12 drinking vessels and the 4 days' worth of plates of soured food that were left in the sink. In the future, if you want to define flexibility as asking for a check-out time that is 12 hours later than advertised, and would result in a lost night of income, (even if a future guest were still just a hope, not an imminent reality), you might consider reserving for the extra night. As to price, based on AirBnB recommendations and local hotel rates, I believe our space is way below market. Perhaps your feedback will lead to some improvements in my processing.

Liz describes her place perfectly. This is not the Ritz Carlton, no satin sheets. But, warm and welcoming - lots of light, great neighborhood, all the basics we needed. We were in Philly to meet/adopt our son and so needed flexibility, privacy, and a kitchen that met the needs a voracious newborn's feeding needs as well as those of his parents. Liz and her apartment were the perfect match. We enjoyed lots of short walks around her neighborhood, admiring front gardens and beautiful old homes. Parking was easy. Inside, the two-level apartment meant one of us could sleep uninterrupted while the other was up feeding baby. And the full kitchen allowed us to eat all our meals in. It all just worked out perfectly. Big thanks to Liz!

Response from Elizabeth:
Dear Jessica and Ben, It felt good to be able to house you, when you got such little notice to bring home your son. Adoption is a great way to build a family, and I hope you have health, wealth, happiness and love in abundance as he grows. Best! Liz

My husband and I have been together for over 30 years. We both work (he a Scientist, me in Real Estate). Our schedules limit time to provide concierge services, so we value thoughtful, independent guests who are good communicators. We will provide maps and a guide book to help you in your dining, shopping and exploration of the city. (When we travel, this is our preference.) We try to treat people as we would like to be treated.

Larry is more tech savvy, I am more likely to curl up with a book. We like people and have been hosting folks from foreign countries for many years. My husband travels for work, and he has visited former guests in Europe, (Germany) and Asia (China & Japan) and my daughter has stayed with the family of a young Italian who stayed with us. I stayed with a former guest, a Nun, in a convent, when I went to Paris.
