The space
All unique builds have a tale to tell, and the story behind this holiday stay is particularly poignant. We aren't going to spoil that so you'll have to come and stay for yourselves and read the owner's diary! However there are a several stunning design features we cannot help but share as a teaser.
Set within 5 acres of mixed broadleaf woodland, The Cornish Treehouse is the ultimate couples retreat. Get the dog sitter in to watch the pooch, book the grand parents to mind the kids and indulge yourself with a getaway in this magical Cornish stay.
The house has been thoughtfully integrated around a sentimental and proud standing 200 year old copper beech tree within the owners estate. The supporting structure utilising local oak and ash, has been constructed using ground screws to avoid damaging the beech and provides the unique non-uniform element to the foundations.
The design process incorporates super efficient insulation, so for a tree house sat amongst the lush woodland, it is exceptionally well warmed. Heat is provided primarily from the Devon crafted log burning stove in the living room. All logs are provided free of charge and are sourced from the owners woods, stacked lovingly in a custom built metal surround. There is a heated towel rail in the bathroom to warm your robe and towels. Combined, this creates a toasty temperature and cosy ambience.
Inside, the interior design spec embodies the owners love for all things, well, Cornish. The passion for Cornwall and regional crafts and skills shine through the entire building, with impressive non-conforming construction techniques, fittings and furnishings. Atlantic Blankets adorn a lovingly hand crafted oak bed. Crisp white linens contrast beautifully against the burnt larch cladding and the kitchen features a magnificent bespoke macrocarpa worktop. There are all the essentials for your stay; Nespresso coffee machine, free wifi from a 4G connection, projector screen with Netflix, airplay connected speakers in every room and welcome hamper together with a fluffy dressing gown.
The treehouse ensuite is a labour of love. From the ridiculously aesthetic copper bath, obstinately masculine noire loo and hand carved beech basins, an afternoons pampering and ablutions is not only needed, but necessary in order to appreciate the passion that has gone into this gorgeous creation.
The treehouse is nestled on the edge of Down's Wood, to which guests have access to roam. A leisurely half hour stroll, then back for a soak in that tub. Looe is a mere 10 minute drive south, where some quality eateries are available. However there are also two splendid local pubs that come recommended; The Copley Arms and The Plough at Duloe.
Important Property Notes
Public transport can be a bit of a challenge. It's possible to take the London to Penzance line and then hop off at Liskeard. Then its a 20 minute taxi onwards. If you are extremely brave, there's a Liskeard to Looe trainline which is very slow but gets you closer to destination and then a 5 minute taxi ride afterwards.
You have a choice of parking, just outside the woods on the tarmac, just inside the woods on wood chippings or go off road and up the dirt track and park out the treehouse to save carrying bags. Cars parked in the woods at owners risk.
Although every effort is made to keep the decking and access steps to the treehouse clear and dry, it is sited within woodland, with weather and debris falling year round. Surfaces underfoot may be slippery at any time of year.
Property is not wheelchair friendly and unsuitable for guests with mobility issues.
No Children or persons under 18 due to the unsuitability of the property.
