We truly enjoyed staying at here and felt very comfortable throughout our stay. The beds are amazingly comfortable and the living room, kitchen and bath were all as pictured. We even enjoyed one of the many DVD's available from the mini-library in the living room one evening. The location worked great for us as we spent time on MTU's campus one day in Houghton and then traveled to Copper Harbor the next day on a color tour so this was a great midpoint for our travels. It is important to take the hosts advice and stock on up any groceries, etc., before leaving Houghton-Hancock as while there are some options in Calumet they are limited as mentioned by the host and in other reviews. The stairs are steep as mentioned in another review but manageable for any healthy and mobile adult or child. We didn't visit the ice cream shop below on this trip but hope to on a future visit. The fall colors were great and this location makes is super convenient to visit anywhere on "Copper Island" as some of the locals call it. Thanks again... Lynn & Linda (Freeland, MI)

The Ahmeek Streetcar Station worked out pretty well. Host was super responsive to question over texts. Kids liked the ice cream shop. And the flat was clean, very well laid out and newly renovated. The amenities (TV, DVDs, WiFi, etc.) in the flat were perfect on the rainy days. The size was perfect for our family of 6. It is about 25-30 minutes from the Michigan Tech campus. And everything worked as expected. A previous poster mentioned highway noise, steep stairs, and noise from the ice cream shop. All things to consider, but not necessarily show stoppers. The ice cream shop noise was only noticeable during their closing routine. Seems like this could be remedied with a little investigation of where the gap is between flat and shop. The highway noise is loud if you have the windows open. We strategically opened/closed windows to reduce noise. Finally, the stairs are steep, but not an issue. I would stay here again and recommend to others.

Response from Jane:
Thank you Mike! We love to host families:). Glad the accommodations and location worked well for you. The ice cream shop crew was reminded to not play music and to be quieter during closing, anytime we have folks staying upstairs. The local highway has hardly any traffic, except for in July and August, which noise can be managed by closing the windows along the hwy side, as you did. Our fall-winter-spring visitors comment about the peacefulness and quiet, as the traffic slows way down, and windows are not typically open. We look forward to hosting you again!
