Description

The space

Kea - Tzia as the Greeks call it - is probably the best kept secret of the islands of the cyclades archipelago.

Only a 1 hour boat trip from the mainland port of Lavrio (20 minutes from Athens' El. Venizelos airport), Kea is a large montainous island with beautiful beaches. Little known to foreign tourists, attatched to its traditions, it is dotted with windmills and chapels and crisscrossed by ancient stonepaved hiking trails. A real "must see" is the prehistoric sculpture of a giant lion, which tradition claims that to touch the tip of his nose brings good luck, The picturesque and ancient site of Karthea which overlooks the sea and is reached only by following the road through a wild creek, is another "must" for a travellers itinary. Harmony is everywhere, life flows peacefully.
Ioulis the main town, 10 minutes drive from the port, is a big pedestrian village, built like an amphitheater. A two minutes stroll from the heart of the village, but away from the hussle and bussle, the rental property is built in three levels. Typical Cycladic, stonewalled and breezy, it enjoys a panoramic view from the terrace: the City Hall and its square shaded by plane trees, the roofs of the village and the hill of Kastro and in the distance, the sea, Cape Sounion and the island of Evia...

Tastfully decorated in local style, the cottage offers a simple comfort. With two bedrooms in differend levels it can accomodate 4 to 6 people max. Shower room and a second WC, kitchen with tiny fireplace, barbecue possible.

We recommend a car or motorbike (which can be rented easily on the island) to access the wildest beaches, but it is possible to do without it, the busses shuttleback and forth between the port and the main beaches.

First of all, the terrace is fantastic, as we expected. Perfect place to drink some wine and watch the sunset and ships passing by. The house has an authentic charm and little details that give you the true experience of living in a real greek house. The kitchen is basic but it has all the necessary things, there’s a good fridge, the antique sink is made of stone. The bathroom and the toilet are clean (by the way, fantastic view from the toilet upstairs! :)) We expected that the house would be more difficult to reach, but in fact the way from the parking lot didn’t take that long. There’s a free wifi from the municipality of Ioulida, that is in the main square, and there was quite a stable connection from our terrace. Of course it’s not super-fast, but quite enough for checking mail, messaging and news. Nearby in the village there are several nice restaurants, a great bakery. Katerina is a great host, she was always available, and she helped us a lot when we had an unexpected trouble (my boyfriend got ill). We are happy that we chose this place to stay.

Katerina was a really kind and present host. The house is 5 minutes walk from the "platia", the central square of Ioulida. The building itself profits of the particularities and beauty of the predominant house typology of Kea's capital. Apart from the spacious living room/kitchen and the two cosy spleeping spaces, the highest point of Katerinas house is its terrace with an impressive western view towards Ioulida's Acropolis with a background of the island's valleys and the aegean sea. It's worth the visit and the several steps uphill to the house!

We loved the traditional appartment of Katerina that had a breathtaking view to Ioulis and the sea! Although we did not have the chance to meet Katerina in person, she was always available and helpful when needed. Our only concern was the 5-10 minute uphill walk we had to make from the central parking of Ioulis.

Katerina was a great host! She was always available and made everything in her power to help us out in our trip. The house was clean, good priced and with a great view! The two concerns we had were the following: - There is no door at the main bathroom downstairs. - The house is a good climb from where one can park his/her car. Especially with luggages its quite difficult to perform the hike. Overall a good trip! The island is a little gem and Ioulis is a great village to visit.

we loved staying at katerina's place. the terrace has the most amazing view and one gets a real sense of what living in a traditional house in the chora is like.

Katerina is the perfect Airbnb-Host. Our arrival was very well organised, the handmade plan helped to find the apartment very easily and we were already exspected by a neighbour who handed us over the keys. The apartment is lovely. Small, but with everything one needs during a holiday. We rented a motorbike down at the port and were able to explore the whole island on it. The beaches in Kea are beautiful and empty. One can really relax and calm down - we loved it! At the end of our stay we even met Katerina in person. Since there sometimes is only one ferry a day to Lavrio, we had to go to Athens one day early in order to catch our flight. Katerina kindly offered us to stay at her place. So we even got a glimpse of Athens and enjoyed to see the neighbourhood. I can highly recommend both Airbnb places to anyone travelling to Greece!

Katerina's house is really cute and very well located in the center of Ioulis. We liked its charm, and loved the terrace! The "beds" are the only disappointing part, as there are no real mattresses and it was a bit unconfortable. Katerina was very easy to communicate with and helpful with the indications to get to her house. Thank you Katerina, we really enjoyed our stay in Kea!
