About this listing

Large, comfortable victorian style home just a few blocks from bustling downtown Great Barrington. Easy walk to restaurants and theaters, and a short drive to Tanglewood and other music and theater venues. Close to skiing, too.
Please note: in summer the days can be hot, but generally it cools down at night. The house is not air-conditioned. There are fans throughout the house, and these are usually sufficient to keep things comfortable.

The space

This house is in a great location, easy to get to downtown and yet on a quiet side street. Views to the north and east from this room. Double bed is pretty new, super comfortable! There's a closet with a couple of built-in drawers, a small writing desk and chair. Very cosy and comfortable for two. PLEASE NOTE: the guest bathroom for this room is downstairs off the kitchen. You are the only one using the tub/shower there, but it also contains my washer and dryer.

Guest access

You may use the kitchen light (breakfast, lunch okay, but no dinner parties, please). You are welcome to use the living room and the front porch.

Interaction with guests

I'm happy to give you recommendations and suggestions about restaurants and activities. I would love for us to get to know each other, but I also value my (and your) privacy. And since I work at home, I may not have a lot of time for chatting.

Other things to note

The bedroom is on the second floor. The shared bathroom is on the first floor, just off the kitchen. It's the house's guest bathroom, although you are the only one using the tub/shower there. It also contains my washer and dryer.

Rose was very accomodating and allowed us to upgrade free of charge. She wasn't around but left a list of recommendations for stuff to do around town. Beautiful home in 5 min walking distance to downtown.

Rose was great about communicating with us before our arrival, and once we arrived there were clear instructions about where to find everything. Room was perfect for our needs. I'd go back anytime if I needed a place to stay in the Berkshires!

Thank you, Rose! Rose was warm and welcoming, providing a comfortable, friendly atmosphere for my visit. I felt as though I were staying with an aunt. The room was clean and simple with several literary resources for exploring the area.

Rose is such a lovely lady! She helped us a lot during our stay. There are plenty of space and amenities that the guests can share. The location of the house is also really close to the town center Main Street. Overall it was such a fantastic stay.

The location is great, a quick walk into town and it's a very quiet neighborhood. But there was a lack of cleanliness, the rug in my room had not been vacuumed, there were cobwebs over my head in the shower, lack of outlets for 3-pronged cords, no locks on the doors. I would not go back and I cannot recommend this place unless these issues don't bother you. I only met Rose briefly the day I left.

Rose was very helpful in facilitating our stay in the Berkshires. We were participating in an Art and Crafts Show in Great Barrington and faced some logistical problems. She kindly agreed to help with the commute from the Show venue to her house and back.

I am a freelance graphic designer and painter. I moved to the Berkshires from the New York city area. I have lived in my house for more than 30 years, raised my family here, and now I'm still here. I love music and dance. I play old-timey and folky banjo, and I love most kinds of social dancing. I work at home, so in the evenings I enjoy going out to hear music or to a dance, or to play music with other people. To my surprise, I have become a cat lover (but don't worry, I only have one in residence, a lovely friendly 14-yr-old named Lily). As a host, you can expect me to be friendly and helpful, but not overly so. I enjoy social time, but also depend on time alone to absorb it all. As a guest, you will be able to be independent, but I look forward to chatting with you about the area and what you might do or see while you're here.
