The space

Lakmal's is a nice and simple bungalow surrounded by a garden with mango and coconut trees. Three bedrooms, a hall and a kitchen are rented out to host a maximum of 9 guests, with bathrooms inside as well as outside the house.

Interaction with guests

Lakmal is a friendly single man who's one of the very first full-time homestay hosts in the area. He provides all kinds of services, including his three-wheeler, small trips in the area and he can arrange (not make) food too.

The neighbourhood

Of all that Sri Lanka has to offer, Trinco might be our favorite Neverbeen location. It’s not that the beaches are perfect, the nature is the wildest or the culture is the most abundant, but it’s the right mix and it really feels like something is about to happen there. Too early for mass tourism (which will surely come) Trinco hosts the more adventurous type of traveller. Real backpackers come by bus or train, but seriously, save yourself some trouble by taking the $35 flight from Colombo - Ratmalana (Helitours) and treat yourself to one of the nicest coastal landings you’ll see, straight across the unique Trinco harbour. Once there, do all the sunbathing, temple-visiting and island hopping you need to do, but don’t forget to visit the fish and vegetable markets downtown and the beach temple in this little gem of a town called Salli, just above Uppuveli beach. Once there, a lovely toothless bloke called Kutien (Ku-Tee-Ann) or any of his more ‘toothful’ colleagues would be happy to take you on a boat trip all the way to the bottom of Swami Rock.
Lakmal’s is located on a quiet stretch of the Kanniya Road near the hot springs, about 1.5 km to the local beach, 5 km to Nilaveli beach and some 10 km to Swami Rock.

Hi, because I'm still travelling in Sri Lanka, so I'm sorry that i almost forget to write a recommendation for the kindly host Trincomalee is a nice place , u can view beautiful sea, beach here many foreigners love this city, the room is a big one and can hold many person, and i would like emphasize that this house don't include hot water for bath, no WiFi, and no air conditioner, if u like cooking, also just several cooker for cooking However, the host is so nice that can compensate most of these, he is such a kind man, always glad to tell u anything, when we have questions about the time table of the train, he even called his friends to help us, thank u a lot it's really helped us And the neighbor is also very nice, they would glad to help u to solve your problem, thanks to their help, i can buy the incense to kill mosquitoes~ So i sincerely advice that maybe provide more things can make the room a better place, but u should know, the price is so cheap~ Miss you so much, if i have the chance, i may go there again maybe~

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
