Description

The space

Room on 2nd floor has double bed for 1 or 2 guests (only 1 guest if staying longer than 10 days) and a renovated bath. The room has a small desk for writing or laptop. Enjoy fresh morning air in the front garden or rear deck overlooking the park or go stroll through it. Squeeze a quick workout in downstairs before you explore what DC has to offer. We are repeatedly told the pictures don't do the house justice.

Guest access

Full use of your room and bath at all times. Use of living room, dining room, front garden, rear deck, the park and basement "gym" -- and kitchen basic use allowed from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. More extensive kitchen use for guests staying 5 days or more.

Interaction with guests

After initial greeting, feel free to ask questions. We respect guests who want privacy, but interaction level can vary with schedules and other commitments. Patrick can speak a little bit of French.

The neighbourhood

Bloomingdale has several coffee shops, restaurants, bars, bakery, yoga studio, lovely architecture, and friendly people. The convention center, downtown business district, US Capitol, and much more are a quick bus ride away. You can also walk to those areas in 30 min or less. The architecture in the neighborhood and throughout the city is very interesting and beautiful.

Getting around

The bus is 1 block away (G2, G8, 80) and the metro subway stop (Shaw) is 6 blocks. Its an easy walk. Capital Bikeshare is around the corner. The neighborhood is walkable. The US Capitol is a 30 min walk. Let us know if you need to park a car. A taxi from National Airport is $30. A taxi from the train at Union Station is probably about $15.

Other things to note

Well behaved dogs allowed with prior notice. Parking pass for street parking if needed. Holding your luggage before check-in or after check-out can usually be arranged. Please let me know what time you expect to arrive. If you have a special request or need, just let Patrick know. Warren works long hours, so Patrick is your generally your primary host. We -- and therefore the house -- is easy and quiet.

Patrick and Warren were wonderful hosts. The room was clean and the private bathroom was great. Their house is located near a number of great restaurants and bars, as well as within walking distance of the Metro (green line) and a grocery store. I would happily stay with them again!

We felt so welcome in DC and it began with meeting our host. A beautiful home with privacy available for guests that truly made it an enjoyable stay. Located in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to coffee shops, restaurants and bars, and bus service if needed. A home away from home! We look forward to another visit!

Patrick was an amazing host! Their home is charming and a short uber ride to the National Mall. It is a great place to stay if you are visiting the D.C. area.

Unfortunately we cannot meet during the weekend but it didn't mean any difficulty. The house and the room was wonderful and very tidy, I could live there. :)

I recommend this house. The location was perfect and the house is really nice, I had my own bathroom and bedroom. I did not meet Patrick and Warren but they always answered my questions and were very kind.

Patrick and Warren were very welcoming and warm upon arriving. Their home is very beautiful and well maintained; the pictures do not do justice to the shared living spaces that they make accessible. In particular, we needed to make use of the common areas (the kitchen and dining room), and they were very accommodating and respectful. We did not use public transportation, but the bike share station was a block away and we were able to reach downtown DC in a fifteen minutes. The neighborhood was quite and safe.
