You have to take a boat in the Muelle Turistico (Turistic Harbour) of Cartagena at 8.30 am, it will cost you around 40.000 pesos. We recommend you the cabin #4 with Miss Deniris's agency because she is one with the most economic travels and she knows where The Hamaquero is so the boat will leave you in our private deck. You just have to tell her that you’r staying at The Hamaquero.
If you prefer to take another boat you have to understand very well where, in Isla Grande, they will arrive. It can happen that you have to walk 30 min to reach our place (in tha case, when you arrive to the island, ask some one to guide you to PALMAR, EL AVIARIO and EL HAMAQUERO- this is where we are).

We stayed a night at Sofia's place. The accommodations were very comfortable and the location of the place is great- so serene and peaceful! The food the hosts cooked was so fresh and delicious. The hosts were very friendly and helped us make the most of our time on the island. We definitely recommend staying at the Hamaquero!

Beatiful Island, great seafood, lots of mosquitos and ants allover our room and luggage. The place seems to be treated very careless, the electricity you consume gets mostly produced by gasoline motors. But you are on a Caribbean island, you have a corral reef at you doorstep. Just know what expects you and you wont get disappointed!

I enjoyed my time on the island -- good weather, warm water, tasty food.

Our hosts made it very easy to get to and away from their place from Cartagena which can always be an issue with these off the beaten path types of places. The accommodations were very bare bones and rustic but that is also part of the charm. The food was delicious and being that the island is more or less undeveloped, this is a good thing since you'll be eating your meals here. A few quick pointers 1) Bring water - they sell small bottles of water for ~$1 and being that it's a tropical environment - you'll go through a lot - I'd recommend picking up a few 6 Liter bottles from town before heading here. They have a fridge so store it so you can keep it cold. 2) Bring bug spray and lots of it - the mosquitos were absolutely brutal - they are present 24/7 and especially present at dawn and dusk. The rooms are not sealed so they will get into your room. There are mosquito nets but the condition of some of them is certainly questionable (ours were in great shape but we heard otherwise from other travelers). 3) Bring water shoes, goggles, and a rash guard. You're directly in front of a reef and I highly recommend spending some time exploring the water. They do have snorkeling gear you can use (free of charge) but I preferred just free diving with my own goggles. While you're not in the Great Barrier Reef, you'll see all sorts of schools of tropical fish, sea urchins, and other life. 4) Check out the bird park next to the property - this was great and we only discovered it on our last day - it's completely free (and unmanned) but they have peacocks and other tropical birds all hanging around. It's great for the kids. Overall- we enjoyed our time at El Hamaquero and the staff were amazing - it's rustic but has a certain island charm. I only wish the rooms were a bit more sealed to help us manage the mosquito situation (which is bad).

Bring bug repellant and clothing that covers you to avoid severe bug bites. Bathroom usage and shower is very basic, water out of buckets no direct water pipelines. Beautiful views, and private beach to snorkel and swim. The snorkeling equipment is free to use. There is a trail into the small town to buy basic goods and a small bite. About 15-20 minute beautiful walk.
