Newly renovated guest suite located in beautiful University City. 3rd floor walk-up apartment with entry through host's Victorian era home blends lovingly restored old fashioned charm with fresh, cheery design. The Pineapple room is named for the antique "pineapple" bedroom set. We enjoy using the pineapple motif which is an appropriate historical symbol for hospitality. Come and enjoy this bedroom which says "welcome" to our visitors. A serene, and comfortable retreat!

The space

This semi-private apartment is exclusively for guest use and is located on the third floor of the host's home. It does not have a private entrance on the street, but guests are provided with keyed access to the main house and a separate key to the guest bedroom for their total security and privacy. To enter the suite, guests will pass through the host's living room and walk up two flights of stairs to the third floor . Guest quarters include exclusive use of the guest bedroom, a small and well equipped kitchenette and a private bathroom. All rooms are directly adjacent to each other and connected by the third floor hallway.

Guest access

In addition to the three guest suite rooms, guests will have access to use of the host's shared spaces including the living room on the first floor. This comfortable space is available for relaxing, reading, playing board games or social congregating. Host requests respectful use of this shared space (see house rules) and asks guests to seek advance permission from host if they want to entertain any additional visitors within the house. Guests will also have access to the basement laundry room to do their laundry, and to the front garden and back deck if they want to sit outside or need some fresh air.

Interaction with guests

Host lives in the house, is often home, and can usually greet guests in person at or soon after their arrival. Host will give the guests an orientation tour of the house and some tips about the neighborhood and city, if needed, at the beginning of their stay. Guests are assured of uninterrupted privacy on the 3rd floor. Host will provide advance notice to guest before entering the area to replenish supplies in kitchen and bathroom, to do emergency maintenance, or, very rarely, to access a closed room that is not part of the suite.

Host is friendly and willing to spend informal time to get acquainted and or socialize with guests, if desired, and as time permits. Host will also answer questions as needed. If host is not immediately available to respond to questions guests are encouraged knock on the door of host's 2nd floor office or to contact her by text message or telephone call. Host will respond as quickly as possible.

Other things to note

Guests will have WIFI access through high speed internet (FiOS).

Breakfast is not included in your reservation but the kitchenette will be supplied with a limited selection breakfast items to get you started on your stay. Complimentary food items in the kitchenette are selected with an emphasis on organics. You will also find a few basic condiments and coffee and tea for your convenience. Any food that is provided start of the visit is a welcoming gesture and will not be replenished after it runs out. Guests can re-supply any of those items, and/or add to the pantry, if desired, during their stay. Please let host know if the condiments are running low (salt. pepper, sugar, oil, vinegar, coffee, tea, etc.) so they can be replenished.

Host is particularly interested in meeting and serving tango travelers, members of the worldwide Argentine tango community who are coming to dance in the Philadelphia area. Please send a private message in advance of booking if you are visiting Philadelphia primarily to attend local milongas or other tango dance events. We want to make sure your accommodation needs are met!

The pineapple bedroom features an antique four poster "pineapple" bed, which is slightly smaller than standard double bed. The bed can sleep one person very comfortably and has also been used for two people at times, but it is best described as "cozy for two". A double sized foam mattress is available and can be added on the floor of your room if more sleeping space is needed for a second person. Please let host know if you will need the extra bed for your comfort.

Philadelphia law limits our ability to host visitors through Airbnb for more than 30 days at a time. If you need a longer stay (from 31 days up to 3 months) please send a private message for consideration in advance of booking. City legal requirements will apply.

We were passing though and stayed one night to meet up with some friends in the neighborhood. It was great that it was walkable to get them, and had some good restaurants near by. There was also free street parking, which was a huge help. I felt safe while staying and walking in this area.

Leslie's place is fairly priced for what it is. You have the 3rd floor to yourself, including a private bathroom and small kitchenette. It's half a block up from Baltimore Ave, which has a wide selection of restaurants, coffee shops and even a food co-op within walking distance. Leslie stocked the kitchen with fruit, milk, eggs and whole wheat bread (in place of bagels at my request) for breakfast. She is a responsive communicator and very helpful. Some things to be mindful of. The suite is in the top floor, so building heat rises. The weather was hot and sticky during our stay, but the window A/C units and ceiling fans were sufficient to keep us comfortable. Sound carries up and down the stairs, so it's more like upstairs guest rooms than a completely private suite. The antique bed in the Pineapple room is only a full, the mattress is hard, and the bed jiggles when anyone moves. Between the summer heat and cramped quarters, we did not sleep well the first night. Leslie graciously switched us over to the Santorini suite, which has a larger, more comfortable bed. I believe you pick one or the other, so just go with that one. The bathroom has a claw tub only, with no shower curtains, so you must shower sitting down. The doors into the building have multiple locks that require careful pushing and jiggling to open. You are asked to remove your shoes when entering, but Leslie keeps the place immaculately clean. Bottom line, as long as you're okay with the quirks and idiosyncrasies, it's a great value for West Philly!

Leslie has a beautiful home and is very welcoming. There is a small kitchen equipped with most everything you would need including condiments, coffee, tea, and food items. The neighborhood was eclectic with shops/restaurants and about 1.5 miles from downtown which I was happy to walk on a beautiful day. This is a great place to stay for short or long term.

My boyfriend and I were wildly impressed at the wonderful accommodations Leslie offered! From the clean, quaint room we stayed in to the kitchenette that was stocked with fresh fruit and bagels, we knew we had found just the right spot for our weekend getaway! Leslie was very communicative leading up to our visit and extremely kind and polite. Since we were on the top floor of the house, we also had a great deal of privacy, which Leslie was sure to offer us. We look forward to returning one day!
