About this listing
Have you ever dreamed of falling asleep to the meditative sound of the waves? Waking up to the golden rays of the sunrise? Muchu House on the Sea will offer you this unique experience. Join us and live real local life on this beautiful island.
MuChu is a real home away from home. Our little guesthouse features 3 cozy rooms built on stilts on the sea in a quiet, local area of Koh Lanta Old Town. The rooms have funny (but meaningful) names: Chuchu, Mumu and Zulu. All share an outdoor kitchen and a large relaxing deck where you can swing on your hammock or do some yoga. Wifi can be accessed from all the rooms and the shared areas. If you are looking for a different, unique, local experience, MuChu is the place!
Chuchu is the superior room, or the “Royal Suite", the best out of the three rooms. The spacious bungalow is built of wood in real fisherman style and has a king-size bed, mosquito net, table, chairs, hammock, fan and a private, convenient bathroom with hot shower. Big sliding doors opening up to the sea and the deck allow you to watch the sun rising up above the horizon and the low tide changing into high from the comfort of your bed. The view is magnificent, check out the pictures. Please be aware that the deck is shared with the two other rooms. When other guests stay in the other two rooms, they also have access to the deck that is in front of Chuchu. It is important that you realise this when you book.
All guests have access to an outdoor kitchen with fridge and gas stove. You might want to practice your newly-acquired Thai cooking skills or just take a break from Thai food and cook something from back home. Next door to your house you can buy the freshest fish, squid and shrimp straight from the fisherman or you can indulge in local markets where you explore local fruit, veggies, spices, curries and other familiar and totally new ingredients.
In the kitchen area there is a table where you can sit down and enjoy your food, but you are also welcome to have your meal on the beautiful deck.
You share the kitchen and the deck with guests in the two other rooms. Therefore we require all guests to keep the kitchen and the deck tidy, to clean up after cooking, and to be considerate of each other and the neighbours.
Interaction with guests
We are happy to be there for our guests and want to make sure you have a pleasant stay.
We will always meet you at your check-in and give you information about the accommodation, the surrounding and the island.
After your check-in we are at your service online to answer any questions you might have and help you arrange anything, such as motorbike rental, transportation to and from the airport, a 4-island trip or a diving course. You can also try Mon's local-style private cooking classes, where you learn to cook authentic Thai food in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. More info about that on our web page Cooking with Mon.
If there is anything you need, please let us know, we might be able to help!
Other things to note
We would like to invite people to stay with us and experience this beautiful life on the island.
As mentioned before, guests are expected to leave the common areas clean and tidy. In addition, guests should be aware that we live in a very local area. Therefore we should respect the Thai culture and the different religions. However, the neighbours are already familiar with our Western culture and they are generally very easy-going. You will see that at night, after 10 pm, our neighbourhood is very quiet. It is recommended to keep it that way.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.

Nice to meet you! We are Mon and Maayan. We are a couple, Mon is Thai, and Maayan is Dutch/Israeli. We live a quiet life with our beautiful little girl Mili. We have been together since 2011 and have actually even met each other on Koh Lanta. We run a little guesthouse named Muchu House on the Sea and Wooda, a beautiful house on the water where we used to live, both on Airbnb.
Since our daughter's arrival to our familiy we moved away from Old Town, so we see our guests less in person. We try to always be there for our guests' check-in and otherwise we are always available online to answer any questions and help our guests with all kinds of things like trips, transportation and even help on organising birthdays or wedding proposals(!)
Mon is an excellent chef/teacher and is offering private, local-style cooking classes for people who want to learn how to cook real Thai food.
What we love the most is cooking & eating, spending time at home with our little girl, traveling and just hanging out with friends.
