Description

The space

Originally built in the 1960's as a private drawing studio, experience where one of the world's most iconic comic strips was drawn. With its own private four-hole golf course, our oasis in the woods puts you in the middle of all that Northern California has to offer. Just 10 minutes outside the town of Sebastopol and only an hour north of San Francisco, you'll be secluded without being out of touch. Nearby locations include the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma, the Russian River, beautiful forests of coastal redwoods, and a myriad of little towns and backroads to explore in between. The area boasts some of the best hiking and biking trails in the country. Small towns and communities offer everything from the quaint and quirky, to a multitude of first-class restaurants and one-of-a-kind shopping.

However, you may find that a weekend in is exactly what you are looking for. Light a fire, cozy up with a glass of wine, and never leave the confines of your new home away from home. Accommodations are limited to 1-2 people; the studio is a one-bedroom with a California King bed, 1 1/2 baths, full-size kitchen with modern appliances, living room with a stone fireplace, WiFi, flat screen TVs, outdoor grill, covered car port, and washer/dryer. Throughout the house you will find large windows and skylights. The bedroom overlooks a deck with covered seating on one side, and a fish pond and waterfall on the other.

For over 30 years our family and friends have found much happiness here, and we know you will too.

Guest access

Upon entering the grounds on it's own private road, you're free to relax and explore the entire property. We have ten acres, four of which feature a four-hole golf course. Rumor has it a few of Hollywood's past great celebrities have played here as guests. Enjoy the beauty and serenity of the redwood forest that runs on the other half of the property.

Wild life abounds. It is common to see deer and a myriad of other animals including the occasional peacock wandering about. The spring and summer seasons bring butterflies and a variety of birds. Take a short hike through redwoods and open areas of the property; sitting benches and a hammock allow you to lay back and enjoy the scenery. Pick fresh fruit from a variety of trees on the grounds - apples, lemons, plums, apricots, cherries and more. Some guests have even been known to create wonderful edibles in our kitchen.

Interaction with guests

To keep the property to a high standard, a groundskeeper is present performing general maintenance Tue-Fri. Upon your arrival he will be available to give you a brief tour of the property and ensure that you are situated.
We will always respect the privacy of our guests and maintain a low profile. If complete privacy is what you desire, arrangements may be made prior to your arrival.
Check in is 2PM. Checkout is 11AM.

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The house was charming and cozy (especially with the lovely welcome basket that Dana left us!), but also impeccably neat. There was thought put into every last detail of our experience, and the house and gardens were simply beautiful. Dana was extremely responsive and easy to communicate with. We love Sebastopol, so the location was perfect. Can't wait to come back!

I could write a novel about how amazing this place and its host were. From the second we arrived on the property we knew this was the perfect place to spend our wedding weekend. The grounds are absolutely stunning, from the little waterfall to the cozy hammock and amazing deck, so we were already sold there. We get to the door and we see a personalized chalkboard sign, a welcome basket full of goodies, and a wedding card. Dana and Eric could not have been more welcoming and made us feel so at home. The kitchen was beautifully decorated and was fully stocked, with all modern appliances. The living room was amazing and cozy with a fireplace and large flatscreen TV. The bedroom was gorgeous with cute historical information and photos, plenty of space, and another large flatscreen. I could have spent all three days in the super comfy King sized bed. This was the first time in my life that I was absolutely blown away by how much the pictures don't do this place justice. At the end of vacations, I'm normally just a little bit happy to go home, but I was genuinely sad to leave. It was worth every penny and I already can't wait to come back!

The stay at the "studio" exceeded every expectation we had, from the beautiful outdoor terraces and fairways to the wonderfully done interior, this location will be one you will never forget. This place is ideal for couples and/or friends looking to unwind, cook and eat outdoors and take in one of the most beautiful areas in California. Dana was a wonderful host - available on short notice via text and/or phone. You will wont for not at the studio and want to come back!

This cottage far exceeded our expectations. From the thoughtful and personalized welcome basket/fresh flowers, to the fully stocked kitchen, impeccably "Charlie Brown"-inspired decorative touches, super luxe king-sized bed and the expansive groomed grounds...this is true gem of a place. The hosts were most generous with all the amenities that we truly felt we were staying at "Uncle Charles Schulz's" cottage studio for the long weekend. For any couple that is looking for a retreat, you will not be disappointed. The photos do not do this place justice. Truly an "at least once in a lifetime" experience. Already looking for another excuse/reason to come back :-).

Travel, in our experience, is normally disappointing. You get used to the reality always being a little less shiny and pleasant than the carefully chosen photographs in the brochure led you to expect. You get used to that and aim off for it so when you go somewhere that matches or even exceeds expectations it is a joy: Prague, Venice and Vancouver for is. Now we can add this cabin to the list. If anything the description fails to do it justice. Utterly gorgeous, beautifully designed, set in sumptuous grounds - and with some proper, 20th century history attached to it (a nice book spells out how the cabin was built and used by the world's most famous cartoonist). We arrived and quickly changed our plans in order to spend more time at the property, because it was such a pleasure to be there. Every space in and around the cabin is a pleasure to spend time in. It has the feel of a private villa in the grounds of a super luxury hotel. Only it's better, because it's all yours. My only caveats are the obvious ones: this is for a couple who want a tranquil environment, and which they expect to use. The place is excellent value for money, but you will need to be prepared to pay the fair price for it.

I hesitate to write the following review as it may impact the availability for us to visit again. Dana and Eric were outstanding hosts. Excellent communications, clear concise, and timely. The cottage itself is amazing. It is great for a couple, with a kitchen, living room and a bedroom that has 2 glass walls looking out to redwoods and some fish ponds by the deck. We slept with the windows open accompanied by the wind in the trees. The living room had a large TV to watch some Olympics on and a well stocked kitchen to cook. There is an outdoor area to eat your meals which looks out into the redwoods. We played a few holes of golf and walked the 10 acres each day. The seclusion and privacy of the grounds and home was unexpected and a pleasant surprise to find in a rental. Summer mornings had the typical overcast quickly burning off to warm afternoons to sit on the deck and relax. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed and eager to visit again next summer. We have used Airbnb in multiple countries over the past few years and this is by far the best stay we have had. It is a little more expensive than most places, but worth every penny if you are seeking a true getaway experience
