The space

Epinard is a community event and art space that hopes to foster creativity, friendship and an appreciation of nature.

Designed and hand-built by my husband, Epinard is truly a unique building, and is regularly used as a backdrop for making movies, music videos, TV commercials, photo shoots for magazines and CD covers, as well as the organization of a variety of Japanese and international artistic and cultural events.

The design of Epinard is reminiscent of a great ship and the concept we follow is "Cruising in the World".

We believe that you will experience a wonderful journey every day during your stay at Epinard. How about cruising with us?

If you want to stay somewhere organic and creative with two of the worlds most wonderful people the Epinard is for you! Ikuko & Masami are the kind of people who remind you of all the best human qualities - they are great hosts who are patient, sharing and extraordinarily generous in spirit and home. Masami and Ikuko are great cooks, magnificent local guides and social innovators. We stayed when itwas particularly hot but were comfortable with the fans upstairs in the attic - every day here was a new adventure! We left inspired and Hope to stay again one day!

Great break from all the touristy spots Japan has to offer. Both the hosts and their home are charming and quirky. Ikuko is a great cook - all the meals we had were delicious. I highly recommend her calligraphy class as well. One caveat, the attic is slightly difficult to access so I wouldn't recommend it if you have difficulty climbing stairs.

Don't hesitate to book one or few nights in this room. The room, and the house are unbelievable. It's very pleasant to share moments with Ikuko and her husband because they're adorable. They have many ideas to help to plan good trips and they have many good tips to find the best restaurants :) Thanks to them, we've discovered udon and soba, and we've got a very good Japanese breakfast :) Their favorite verb is "share", and this feeling is everywhere with them.

Ikuko & Masami's home is so unique and special. My time spent in the home and with the family was a highlight of my time in Japan. Communication was always timely and clear. The entire studio is decorated with small touches that keep your eyes wandering as you explore the various rooms. Total privacy throughout my stay and freedom to wander and appreciate the various spaces. Ikuko and Masami invited myself and others along to their parents restaurant for dinner and it was a relaxed evening with a stunning meal. Ikuko also made breakfast in the morning which was an additional treat. Excellent wifi and all the modern amenities one needs. I HIGHLY recommend you stay here. It's truly special and you won't regret it. They know true hospitality, sharing and kindness .

After the incredibly positive descriptions of other guests, we were expecting the top airbnb apartment in our japanese journey. Ikuko and Masami are very kind and super helpful but I have to say that their house is not at the expected level. Oil smelling in the entrance, not clean, badly equipped, attic super noisy... yes their is a charm and some nice antique furnitures, but also many objects without any value and a big mess around. From ouside, the house itself looks like a abandoned hangar. The sea is terrible, with an ugly highways along the beaches and the nearby swimming pool is terribly expensive (over 6000 yens for half day two adult and two children). I congratulate Ikuku and Masami for having been able to transform this really poor environment into great experiences for so many guests and I feel sorry to have to be so skeptical about their apartment.

I live in Oiso surrounded by the rarified splendor of the sea and mountains. It is located on the west coast of the country just one hour by train from Tokyo. This majestic area on Sagami Bay is called "Shonan", and Oiso is said to be its place of origin. It's beauty is undeniable evidenced by the fact that it has become the second home to no less than eight former Japanese Prime Ministers, along with world renown author Haruki Murakami.

My family is comprised of my husband, three sons, a dog, a goat and a turtle. Our home is conjoined with a studio that was designed and created by my husband, where we also work. Our lovely studio is called "Epinard", and is a place that is regularly used as a backdrop for making movies, music videos, TV commercials, photo shoots for magazines and CD covers, as well as the organization of a variety of Japanese and international artistic and cultural events.
