Affordable, clean and safe hostel in the center of Boracay.
Charina never replied to my message. When I got there they had difficulty locating the reservation. One of the receptionists reprimanded me because I used my nickname for this profile hence the reservation was under my nickname and not the name on my ID. That receptionist kept on harping that the system was a mess. This was irritating coming from a flight that had already been delayed so I was very tired and just wanted to get settled in. Also, the water ran out when I was taking a bath. one of the other receptionists was very helpful though. She got me the water so I could continue my bath. She explained that the water shortage was being experienced by the entire island and not just the hostel. the bed appeared clean. they provided a lock for your "locker" although it would have been a good idea to bring your own (Again something I hoped the host informed me about). This was my first hostel experience. I don't think I would do it again.
The Boracay Box and Ladder hostel was GREAT! The location is right behind the main mall and very convenient to get to everywhere. The accommodation is very comfortable. Always air conditioned and well maintained. There is a sun-deck where a lot of guests often lounge around and hangout. Everyone is super nice and friendly (though I obviously suggest you spend more time at the beach). But you can meet friends there and then do activities later together. The staff made me feel very comfortable and cared for. Actually, I came in around 11pm and was worried that it would be a problem. Charina was very responsive the entire time and gave directions on how to get to the hostel and there was a staff to check me in. Check-in is 24 hours, and check-out is 24 hours from arrival. This is actually also very convenient because it means I don't have to check out at noon which gave me some extra time before my flight out to keep my luggages around. Overall a great visit. Thank you Charina and the rest of the staff!
Definitely among the best backpacker style hostels I've tried. As an avid traveler before, my experience with dorm type rooms range from the really bad to the passable so I wasn't expecting much of Box and Ladder Hostel. Upon arrival though, I was pleasantly surprised by the layout of the rooms and bed arrangement as it provided just the right balance between privacy and practical use of space. The building is quite new and relatively safe too. The staff are friendly and helpful, I did not have to go through the usual hassle of checking in as they led me to my bunk within just 5 minutes upon arriving. The owners too are very accommodating and helpful, very easy to get along with. Will surely recommend Box and Ladder Hostel to friends coming over to visit Boracay.
