We are keen foodies and love sharing our Australian food traditions! Our home is in an awesomely convenient inner city hub next to a major bus stop, huge grocery stores & a shopping mall. You'll be happy & comfortable with lots of space! You have a private and exclusive apartment downstairs with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a big kitchen perfect for foodies! We also have an extensive food garden that you're welcome to with herbs and salad vegetables. We live upstairs, and we love to meet new people.
Our home fits with the Cairns life in that it's relaxed, easy-going and very welcoming. We actively embrace the Australian tropical lifestyle of rest, relaxation and taking it easy. Our home is a "Queenslander", a heritage-style traditional home in a really beautiful suburb of Cairns.
You'll have 2 huge king-size beds & fluffy pillows, and one of the beds can be split into 2 king single beds. There is super fast free wifi internet everywhere in the house. You have a huge 2 bedroom apartment to yourself with lots of space to spread out.
Our place reflects our lifestyle values in that we love to cook, we prefer to eat fruit and vegetables that are grown at local farms or that which we grow ourself.
Your rooms have a place to hang your things, a bedside table, air-conditioning, fan, fresh clean designer linen and lovely towels!
We live upstairs, and your rooms are in their own self-contained house downstairs. Your space has its own separate bathroom, gourmet kitchen, dining area, outdoor patio and lounge room.
We supply locally-made toiletries in the bathroom like shampoo, conditioner, soap and toothpaste in case you forget to bring yours.
We also have big beach towels if you want to go to the Esplanade Lagoon, or if you're going out to the Great Barrier Reef.
You'll find lots of different varieties of palm trees and tropical flowers in our garden, as well as lots of herbs to cook with. The gardens and grounds around the house are common shares areas, so you will see us around the garden, doing our washing or playing with our dog.
Being wildlife lovers we adore that lots of Aussie birds call this area home and we see cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets and sunbirds everyday.
You will have a completely functional 2 bedroom apartment all to yourself. We live upstairs.
Your place includes a self-contained gourmet kitchen, bathroom, lounge room, dining room and lovely outdoor patio area. Our home has extensive tropical landscaping, and you are especially welcome to freely use the pool whenever you wish.
Our home is your home, so you will be able to use everything like you would be used to at home; kitchen, TV, wifi Internet, laundry, linen etc.
You are very welcome to use our washing machine and do your laundry.
It's just like sharing a house with friends, so if you need anything you can just ask.
Please note our home is unsuitable for young children. We do not have any child facilities.
Interaction with guests
As a host our interest in Airbnb is the cultural exchange! We are as interactive as you would like us to be. If you would like to be very talkative and tell us about your home we are very encouraging! Equally if you're here just for chillaxing, that's ok too.
We have a 'our home is your home' policy, and we always find people who stay with us leave as good friends.
We are a self-employed couple and work quite long hours. We are rarely home during the day. We work just across the road though, so if you ever need anything we're easy to get hold of.
We've had a lot of experience with international guests, and very much love the cultural exchange from travellers. We warmly welcome guests still learning English. We are slow and patient with non-English speakers as we are learning Spanish and Japanese and understand how frustrating learning another language can be.
To say we are very fond of food is an understatement! We love to invite over friends for dinner parties, so if you share your dishes from home you will be very popular! We also love to talk about our Australian cuisine with our guests. From our conversations our guests have tried kangaroo, pavlova, ANZAC biscuits, meat pies, "The Lot" hamburgers and lots of other delicious Aussie food. We always have tropical fruit available for tasting.
We are also super-keen for specialty coffee and are always sampling exotic brew roasts from around the world. We are barista competition judges and know the BEST coffee cafes in Cairns!
Our personal interests include photography, wildlife, food, coffee, technology and natural environment.
Also we are super keen to learn about cuisine from your country, and love sharing ours. We love cooking with our guests!
Our house is a big old wooden house so you will hear us upstairs from time to time. Some of the wooden floor boards have some squeak.
Having lived in Cairns for more than 20 years we have a very good idea of tours, so feel free to wait until you arrive before booking your Great Barrier Reef cruises or rainforest trips as we can help you with this. We keep lots of brochures here at home for you to have a look through to help you make a decision.
Other things to note
Please drop us a chatty message if you have any questions. We always reply very quickly - usually within 10 minutes (or 8 hours if we're sleeping).
We look forward to seeing you here.
Also the tropical fruit is *amazing* at this time of year; mangoes, bananas, pineapples, limes, papaya, soursop, achacha and mangosteen!
Treat our home as you would your own.
We are friendly, relaxed and laid back people, so the rules are really just a reflection of our tropical lifestyle for the comfort of everyone.
• Our entire property is strictly non-smoking. This includes the house and gardens. If you are a smoker you will need to go for a walk nearby.
• Leave the kitchen how you found it by cleaning and putting away your dishes. Only cut on the chopping board. Please do not use a knife on our benches.
• Do not eat in the bedrooms. It attracts pests into your bed.
• If you use the BBQ please clean it afterwards. Cleansing wipes are under the BBQ.
• The Internet cannot be used for illegal activity including copyright infringement.

I'm a crazy foodie who could spend every minute of every day cooking delicious things if I wasn't busy running a web development company.
People say I'm very friendly, bubbly and easy-going. Well... I hope that's what they say!
My partner Kaj and I love travelling! We are the sort of travellers that like to stop for a while in one place and really get to know the vibe of the location. We've travelled extensively through Australia, New Zealand and Peru, and visited the USA, Japan, France and Hong Kong. My next big trip is hopefully Mexico for Christmas next year. I speak a little Spanish, and am still learning.
We both love regional towns and small villages that are off the beaten tourist tracks where we can get to know the real flavour of the people, cuisine and landscape.
You know when you're a foodie people often ask you what your favourite food is, and it's such a difficult question to answer. I can tell you I love some really common things like broccoli, coffee and chickpeas but I'm also very fond of expensive exotic ingredients like truffles, vanilla beans and aged vinegar.
I'm big on communication and interaction... so you'll likely find me encouraging you to play a board game with me instead of watching a movie. Our TV is little used, but our Scrabble board gets a weekly workout. We have a few board games, and a big appetite for playing. I'm equally fond of a chat, especially exploratory geographical chats about your home town.
I laugh a lot and enjoy life. I hope I can ignite a spark or tickle a sparkle in yours too.
