About this listing

Stunning off-the-grid eco lodge! Full kitchen and breeze way. Views of the Soufriere Volcano, surrounded by hiking trails through the mountains. We're a 15 min walk to some of the best snorkeling and diving on the island & a 30 min drive to Roseau.

The space

We're a 100% solar-powered eco lodge, surrounded by gorgeous rainforest hills. The house was created by Swiss artist, Henri Rohrer as a self-sustaining retreat. There's a rainwater-fed water system, a shower built from local sea stones, and a screened in porch with views of the Soufriere Volcano. All of this is powered with solar. Experience what comfortable sustainable living can be like!

Guest access

One queen sized bed, and fold out couch comfortably sleeps up to four people. House has its own kitchen, breezeway and bathroom and outside spa shower.

Amenities are well designed but simple. For example, we heat water as we need (no hot water on reserve). No internet, but a 10 min walk/ 2 min drive to free wifi down the hill.

Interaction with guests

We're on the property in a separate eco house. We're available as need be and are more than happy to help you to experience the amazing island of Dominica. We have a great guide book available for planning and can give you tips on what we love about Dominica. We love to share what we have learned about off the grid sustainable living and are happy to get into details of solar power, gravity fed water systems, making less trash...if that interests you. Mainly, we are there to help with any questions and make you feel comfortable and welcome!

Fantastic place, very nice view. Totally equiped kitchen , comfortable bed and a very friendly and helpful host. A bit far from most most things to do and see, you definately need a car. I would love to come back!

A little piece of heaven, quiet and surrounded by an incredibly lush nature. The garden was magnificent. Henri was a great host, and though we didn't meet Kathleen, she was really helpful in her messages. That was a wonderful experience!

This is a very beautiful haven in which to base your time away. We reached many areas of the island (by car) and enjoyed returning here each afternoon. Phone reception is spotty. Kitchen is enjoyable/fully functional, even for foodies.

This is a beautiful place to spend time. It's just up the hill from the quaint village of Soufriere. It's very quiet and tranquil. There is some farm animal noise in the morning. It's a short walk to the hot springs. Do be aware that food options in the village are limited. The restaurant CocoYea is fantastic! :-)

Delightful little house - well designed with spacious well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and plenty of clothes hanging space. Outside shower is lovely -except in torrential rain! Beautiful lush garden and great sitting area where you can view it protected from bugs. Above all, charming and helpful hosts.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Henri and Kathleen's Ecolodge. The cottage Henri has created is a fantastic blend of art, whimsy, comfort, and nature. Using many found and recycled items they have made a small scale, functional yet beautiful living area highlighted by a screened in porch that connected us with their gardens, fruit trees and abundant bird life. The cottage is nestled in a rainforest valley surround by volcanic mountains. The space was very clean, convenient to hiking, snorkeling and the sulfur spring baths. Henri was an engaging, spirited and most helpful host.

We really enjoyed our week long stay here. It's really close to Soufriere and Scott's Head, and an easy enough drive to some great hikes. The space is beautifully designed and a real pleasure to spend time in. The views from the gorgeous outdoor shower are spectacular. Henri is a wonderful host. I would definitely recommend staying here, we hope to return soon!

Kathleen User ProfileKathleen is a superhost.

I love to travel and experience different cultures and the beauty of nature everywhere I go. Love music, dancing, enjoying my time on the planet. Worked in local Caribbean radio for most of my life and at one point briefly owned and operated a great pizza place in New Orleans LA called Pie in the Sky. Crazy for music! My husband is per his description an artist/craftsman. I think he is a mad architect inventor builder but who is to say? Henri's work for me is incredibly unique, so very aesthetic and just makes you feel good when you are in the house. The delight is in the details...whether it be that certain curve of the wall heading to the shower area or that cool Roseau finished closet, his touch is unmistakable. His work has been featured in a Caribbean magazine as well as a homes magazine in Arkansas. Welcome to Henri's house! Let your senses be your guide!
