We stayed here for 2 nights in order to visit the tea plantations in the surrounding area. The property was as described, simple and quaint but comfortable. Caretaker was kind and friendly and cooked for us both nights, giving us a taste of homemade Sri Lankan food. It was close enough to places like Mackwoods tea plantation, the local lake and the train station which were all easy to reach with a driver. The driver was also able to stay in the accommodation which was a welcome bonus and I know he appreciated.

It was our first holiday with such experience. We definitely love it and we are planning to rent same house next year.

The place is good and the garden is beautiful. But the biggest problem was we didn't have hot water to shower...

Good value for money, and enjoyable home cooked dinner for very reasonable cost! Easy walking distance from town.

This was our 2nd home stay during our travels in SL. We came to Nurwara Eliya, after a 3 day home stay in Sigiriya. Our communication with the host, Sharon, was always prompt. Our original stay was for 2 days, but we had to cut it short to a day, and Sharon was kind enough to refund us. Sharon also provided a room for our driver with out charge. This was much appreciated. What promted me to book this cottage, was the reviews of past guests. However, I did not find that past guests had given me an accurate view of the home. (This link probably explains the reason: (URL HIDDEN) I am posting this review, knowing that no one would probably rent to me in the future. The host does not live in the cottage (which was mentioned in the description). This led to the home to have a closed in damp, mildew feel. Both my son's and my allergy acted up. The hot water was non-existant, even after it was turned on all night. Everything in the house seemed old and worn, not "quaint" or "charming". The sheets and furniture seemed worn. The books, magazines and memorabilia were from yesteryear. The carpet that was stuck to the floor was unraveling in places and I tripped on it in the night when I went to the bathroom. Past guests had mentioned a lovely view. We could not find it. I knew I had to pay extra to light a fire, however, the housekeeper told me I should have told them ahead of time, because they had to go to the market to get the firewood. I was under the impression the firewood was available in the house. This may have been fine when we were 20 something college students. We were glad our stay was limited to one night.

It's a nice old cottage with retro feel; the location and view isn't great but the caretaker Omandu, his wife and the lovely kitten tried best to make us feel home.
