The space

Private bedroom available in sunny corner rowhouse on quiet, tree-lined street. Newly renovated kitchen and bathroom. Sun-filled front porch and garden out back.

Guest access

Access to shared full bath (next to bedroom), kitchen, living and dining area (including a big farmhouse table for a quiet night in) and sunny front porch.

Interaction with guests

I am fairly busy on the weekends and during the week, so you will be mostly on your own as you come and go. You can always reach me right away through Airbnb with any questions, concerns, etc.

I will leave detailed instructions for guests upon arrival and always available of guests have any questions during their stay.

I have lived in D.C. for ten years and am happy to give recommendations on some of the best (and off the beaten path) places to see in the Nation's capital. Food is very important part of my life and am more than happy to share restaurant or tips for exploring DC's vibrant food scene.

Other things to note

Guests with allergies or light sleepers should know that a cat does live on the property. He is a very sweet, older cat who loves attention, and is very affectionate. I also occasionally dog-sit for friends, but will notify guests in advance.

Juli made me feel very welcome. She was extremely helpful with everything I needed. The house is clean, warm and beautifully decorated. It is also well connected to public transport; there is a bus stop right outside the metro is a 15-minute walk away. I would highly recommend staying here!

This is a beautiful house in a great neighbourhood with good transport links to downtown D.C. and a selection of locally run shops and restaurants nearby. Juli's well-equipped kitchen reflects her love of food and cooking and is wonderful space that she makes available for guests to prepare meals. Guests with allergies will want to know in advance that a cat lives here. While very friendly, the cat can be quite noisy at nighttime which may not be ideal for lighter sleepers. The comfortable room and access to laundry facilities onsite make this a lovely base to explore the capital.

Juli is a wonderful host and her home is a real joy to be in! Do not hesitate! Book now! The room is sunny, with aircon for the hot days and nights. The bed is super comfy and the room well set up. The bathroom is delightful, but the kitchen is something else! Such a well cared for, well set up space. A pleasure to spend time in. The neighbourhood is cool - a great farmers market on Sundays, great coffee shops and spots to have a bite. The bus goes literally from outside the door (well, spitting distance!) to downtown Washington, DC. Juli was helpful and friendly throughout my stay. Our hours did not align, so I did not have the pleasure of spending oodles of time with her. Thank you Juli, for a wonderful 2.5 week stay in Takoma home.

I had a long stay-- around two months. Juli's place was perfect for my trip. There was a bit of a miscommunication on my end about what time I would be checking in and Juli was very understanding and nice about it. I was in DC for an internship and I'm glad I stayed in Takoma. It isn't exactly a 'happening' neighborhood but it feels safe and family friendly, which I like (plus if you want to go to downtown restaurants/bars/movies/grocery store the metro is close by). The neighborhood also has a couple of good breakfast places, lots of vegan options, a farmer's market, and a cute downtown. I went to the Takoma fireworks show on the 4th and loved it!! The walk to the metro took me around 10-15 minutes. I occasionally hopped on the bus if it was raining or I didn't feel like walking (you can use your metro card for the bus as well as the metro, which is so convenient). Only 6 stops to downtown DC on the red line (about 10-15 minute metro ride depending on how temperamental the metro is that day). Crowded during rush hour but not that bad. Juli also gave me a parking pass for my car, which was fantastic, though I did have a couple of run-ins with disgruntled neighbors for parking for long stretches of time (sorry!!). There was an an air-conditioning unit and ceiling fan in my room which was great because DC gets HOT during the summer (I was there June & July). I was given room in the fridge for groceries and could use the kitchen/laundry room. Juli was gone a lot but every time I saw her and/or her boyfriend they were very pleasant and helpful. Asoka (the cat) was very sweet, and I'll miss his weird howl/meows. Checking out was also super easy and I really appreciated that. Thank you Juli!!

Julie's home is as beautiful as it looks, if not more- it looks as if she's an interior designer. She was very commutative and accommodating. She left out fresh towels and a carafe of water in my room for my arrival. She was very understanding and kind when I unfortunately had to cut my visit short in DC, and happily refunded the remainder of my reservation. I saw her very little, as she was busy too- but felt comfortable when I needed to come home late for work. I would highly recommend staying with her- and I hope one day my home is as beautiful as hers.

I received very detailed and informative instructions upon arrival, which was extremely helpful. The house is clean, tidy, and very well organized, feels "organic". My host Juli was nice and welcoming, and knew a lot about the point of interests nearby. I had a long stay of three weeks, during which Juli was not home about half of the time, and I find all I needed at home (utensils etc.) No microwave but I could use the oven. The metra station is 10 mins walk away, and there is a bus stop connecting the metro. They also had the most friendly cat I have ever seen, who greeted me everyday. Overall a happy stay.

If I had a house, I would like it to look like Juli's home. The living/dining room and the kitchen look amazing. I wish I had time to use it! We were always on the go and Juli was busy too, so we didn't meet in person, but we got all the necessary information on how to reach the house and how to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thank you, Juli!

I have lived and worked in Washington, D.C. for the past ten years and am always happy to share my favorite things to do in the city with new visitors! In my free time, I enjoy getting out of the city and exploring the surrounding area. One of my favorite pastimes is discovering regional food treasures and experimenting with local cuisines while traveling -- along with hiking, gardening, biking, or spending any time outside.
