With great views over the upper Wye Valley this peaceful double room offers a real break from the rat race. Hay on Wye, Builth Wells and the Brecon Beacons are all within 20 minutes. There's a good pub a mile away and breakfast is included.

The space
Set above the Wye valley my cottage offers peace and tranquillity. Your only neighbours are the sheep and cattle in the adjoining fields.
The house is full of character with old beams and low ceilings. It's decorated in an eclectic style of old and new furniture, traditional Welsh blankets etc. I'm a keen gardener so there's a pretty cottage garden with chairs, table and parasol which guests are welcome to enjoy in the warmer months. Your bedroom has a comfortable "Bedknobs and Broomsticks Bed" and superb views over the surrounding countryside. The ceiling is quite low so if you're tall you will need to watch your head! The bathroom (shared with me) is small but simple, stylish and contemporary.

There is a cosy woodburning stove in the lounge and central heating throughout the house. The water is fed from a spring and UV treated... so no nasty chemicals. There is good WiFi, 3G/4G and Mobile Phone reception in all areas.

A help yourself breakfast of tea/coffee/fruit juice, cereals, yoghurt, toast with homemade bread and jams and my own free range eggs is available.

Well behaved dogs are welcome although the garden is not secure and sheep could be in the adjoining fields. My own dog Gwen is quite shy initially and will probably keep a low profile but once she gets to know you she'll be your best friend. You're welcome to take her a walk if you wish, she's very easy to manage. I also have 2 cats who come and go as they please and some free range chickens who produce the delicious eggs for breakfast.

There is ample parking for cars, vans etc plus a secure barn for motorcycles, bicycles, kayaks etc.

Guest access
I'm here most of the time and since March 2020 work from home. You're free to come and go as you please. If I am not home either when you are due to arrive or at other times I will make arrangements for you to get in.

The house is open plan. Due to Covid restrictions guests are only allowed to use their room and the garden area, plus the kitchen for breakfast.

You're free to wander across my fields and small woodland where there are beautiful flowers in the Spring.

Other things to note
There are low beams and sloping ceilings particularly upstairs in the bedroom and shower area.

I work from home so it's appreciated if you can vacate between 10.00 and 5.00 if you are staying more than one night.

Check out is 10.00.

There are cats on the premises should you have any allergies.

Location

Builth Wells, Powys, United Kingdom

Crickadarn is a small farming community in the heart of Mid Wales. The nearest village of note is Erwood a mile away on the A470. The pub here has a really friendly, welcoming atmosphere and serves excellent meals. Everyone that goes down there comes back saying how friendly everyone is. There are also plenty of other good eating options in the area that I can recommend.
Builth Wells, home to the Royal Welsh Showground with its annual Agricultural Show in July plus many other events throughout the year is 15 minutes away by car. Hay on Wye with it's quirky book, antique shops and Literary Festival is 20 minutes and Brecon and the Brecon Beacons National Park 25 minutes.
There's great walking right from the door and you can get to some of the most remote and unexplored parts of upland Mid Wales in minutes. The whole of the Wye Valley, Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons offer unlimited walking, cycling, kayaking and fishing opportunities. National Cycle Network Route 8 and the Wye Valley Walk are both one mile from the cottage.

Hi, I'm Lisa a country lover lucky enough to live on a beautiful small holding in Mid Wales with my various dogs, cats, chickens and geese. A Chartered Surveyor by trade, when I'm not working I love to spend as much time as possible in my cottage garden where I grow a variety of flowers as well as fruit and veg. I also enjoy art and craft projects - stained glass, mosaic, knitting and crochet to name but a few and my home is full of creations I've made along the way (some good, some probably not so good!) as well as unusual pieces collected from my travels. When not in the garden I love to explore this wonderful area on my bicycle or motorcycle. I love to travel and have recently found a new thrill in travelling round Europe on my motorbike. I love the freedom it gives me as well as the ability to meet new and interesting people.

During your stay
I'm a keen walker, cyclist and motorcyclist and will happily recommend good local routes for you to take. I've prepared a few mapped descriptions of short walks from the cottage which many guests enjoy doing - details are in your room. I can also lend you maps of the area if you need them.

As far as interaction is concerned I tend to be around most of the time if not working but whether I am there or not just make yourself at home.
