This grand but quirky apartment is equipped with a sauna, a bath and a large balcony. Our guests will be staying in a large private room of the shared apartment. It's located just a 10 minute walk away from the Central train Station in a beautiful historical area in the center with lots of shopping and nightlife. The area is the official design district of Helsinki and hosts multitudes of shops and ateliers of designers and the Museum of Design.

And then there are the giraffes of course.

The space

The apartment is very unique in it's spacious two story design with great decorative elements like the exposed ceiling beams and tile floor. The rooms are so high a tall animal (like a giraffe) could probably fit here. The bedroom is large and has a beautiful canopy bed for two. The apartment is decorated in an eclectic bohemian style, you can see there are artists living here.

Guest access

Besides the room, guests can freely use the common areas: living/dining room, kitchen, bathroom and balcony.
Please note that the common areas are shared with my lovely housemates: two girls Sonja & Minna and a guy Atte. You will be living in the midst of their daily lives as well - sometimes more lively, sometimes quiet. They don't take part in hosting, but don't be afraid to chat and get to know them :)

Interaction with guests

Usually we are renting the room when we are traveling with my partner and co-host Sara, so we will not be in the apartment but you can reach us by calling or texting if there is anything you need to ask.

Other things to note

I am afraid the check-in and check-out times are pretty strict as it's very hard to re-arrange them while out of town. You can discuss with my housemates if you want to leave your luggage after your check-out, but it's up to them if it suits them.
Note that the apartment is on the top floor with no elevator, so it's a good workout with heavy luggage :)

The place is great, well located, clean and very nice. The bed was super comfortable and communicating with Samuel was easy. We really appreciated our stay and we recommend the place.

Samuel is a nice person and communication with him before arrival was fine. I knew that he was travelling and would not be in during the time of my stay. The apartment is OK and in a centrally located area. When I arrived, I found a paper stating that the room is not cleaned in between guests and that I had to do my bed myself, this not being a problem. But the room was dirty and the matress was disgusting. No towel was provided, even not upon request. The bathroom was dirty, smelly and full of used towels. I did not feel welcome and would not return. Sorry.

Response from Samuel:
We are terribly sorry for this bad experience and have contacted Sabine to offer a full reimbursement of her payment (please respond). Unfortunately we are unable to check the room between guests as we are traveling when we rent out our room in our shared apartment. That's why we request our guests to leave the room tidy for the next guests when checking out. We have fresh towels, linen and bed sheet for each guests, you just need to change them yourselves. This time someone had used more towels than was allocated and for some reason we did not receive her request for a towel :( The bathroom is cleaned every time before we leave for a trip, but as there are multiple people using the bathroom in our apartment, it's not always up to par. All these aspects have been though of when calculating the price for our room, which is comparatively cheap for this area in Helsinki. Still we are very sorry for this and we constantly strive to give our guests a nice experience when staying at our place.

Samuel's apartments is close to the city centre. There is no elevator, but when you're fit, it's not a big deal :) We had our room downstairs, so there wasn't private toilet but we knew about it. The room was cozy and comfortable. I liked it. But we didn't know about a cat. The cat was cute and fluffy and lived in the whole apartment (except the room) but for people with allergies it's still really hard. The cat's toilets was in the sauna, so we didn't use it.

I'm very glad to have booked this place in Helsinki. First off, the biggest win is how centrally located this apartment is in central Helsinki ... basically walking distance to Kluuvi central train station/Kamppi bus station. This apartment is unique and quirky ... you book here for that experience of living like a local on the top floor of residential building. That being said, if you have more than one luggage, keep in mind you have to climb 5 floors, there is no elevator. For me, that wasn't a big deal, it's good exercise :) - secondly, the apartment may have roommates present, but for the 4 out of 5 days of my stay, the roommates were not around, so I basically had the whole apartment to myself. Sonja was the only roommate around and she was friendly and kind giving me tips on where to go in Helsinki. Lastly ... since it's a quirky apartment, don't expect luxury furnishings ... it's a apartment home ... that is the whole point of staying at Airbnb. The room itself is best for single traveler in my opinion. Overall, LOVED the stay.
