The most beautiful block in central Harlem, facing Marcus Garvey Park! Sun-filled queen bedroom with ensuite bath, and separate sitting room with sofa bed that sleeps 2. Toast and coffee/tea/juice in the morning. Convenient to transportation and Harlem amenities. Good parking on-street. Central Park near-by. Quiet and private. My wife and I are both involved with the arts and are happy to share information about the cultural scene.

The space

*A note on CheckIn/Out: We are usually very flexible, except when there are guests arriving and departing the same day and we need some time for housekeeping. Of course you can drop off or leave bags as necessary to accommodate your transportation schedule.

This is a one BR, 1.5 bath apartment: you will have the very large south facing rear bed/sitting room with queen bed and en suite bathroom, and adjacent separate large sitting area with a sleep sofa (separated by sliding glass door from queen bed). If you are traveling for business, the sitting area is a great work space, with complete privacy. We will be using the north, front room.

Our Harlem floor through is also home to the Tikhonova & Wintner Fine Art Gallery, a "salon gallery" that puts on regular exhibits that fill the entire apartment - sitting room included - with art. You can expect to be surrounded by the latest exhibit and quite possibly be in residence when we have an opening or related event where you will meet a diverse cross-section of the Harlem community. Please check "Tikhonova Wintner Gallery" to see what's current (just in case your taste in art is different from ours!).

Since the sitting room is also part of the gallery, if there are visitors expected we will ask you to keep that area neat. We sometimes have open hours on weekend afternoons. If you are visiting the city, you will most likely be far away. But you will always have access at any time: we don't get big crowds.

Guest access

You will have full access to the kitchen. There is a washer dryer in the basement. And super fast (50Mb) wifi in the apartment. Heat is controlled by thermostat in each apartment. A/C in your bedroom. No TV, but the wifi is robust enough for any streaming.

Interaction with guests

I work at home on gallery related business, and I also manage an online fundraising auction platform, BenefitEvents. I am NYC born and have lived here most of my life, so I am happy to share my loves and give advice on request. Yulia works as gallery director at St. John's University in Queens (a borough of New York City).

Other things to note

When you arrive at our address, please walk up the outside front steps (the "stoop") and ring our buzzer, #3, located behind the first glass doors, on the left side. You will be buzzed in through two inner doors. When you are inside, walk up one flight to our apartment on the second floor.

Where to start, the place was easy to find, just few minutes walking from the subway. The area was nice with places to go at the evening for a dinner or drink - Jim will definitely direct you the right way. The small supermarket was right next to subway stop. The area seemed to be safe and we haven't had any problems. Our allocated space in Jim's apartment was spacious enough with some nice art on the walls and full bathroom. Jim can definitely suggest nice places to go! Recommended. Thank you Jim!

We had never used airbnb before and we were very happy with this experience. Jim was a very good host and gave us so many directions and suggestions for places to go. The bed was comfy and the apartment is really cool and different. Shower was lovely and hot too which was good. There is even coffee in the mornings if you want it. What more could we have wanted? Harlem was a really cool area also and would definitely recommend staying there to go and see the city but also have somewhere quiet to go back to. Thanks again Jim!

The flat was stunning - and matched only by Jim's welcome and hospitality. The pictures make it look amazing but they really don't actually do it justice. It's really, really light and airy. There's lots of space. And the artwork and plants dotted around the place adds plenty of colour. The bedroom is very big with an en-suite. Waking up to see sunlight streaming through the blinds onto the plants was a welcome start to the day. It was followed by croissants and jam, orange juice and coffee included, which we enjoyed in the living room looking out onto the park opposite. Jim's communication was first-rate - prompt, helpful and accurate. He was there to welcome me and we also had a nice chat. Would recommend. I think Jim normally stays in the big living room (behind a screen) but when we were there he stayed elsewhere. It's such a big place that if he had stayed there it wouldn't have been a problem at all.

Jim’s place was outstanding; from the brownstones on the street outside to the art featured in the home, everything was as pictured. Jim was fast, patient and clear when it came to communicating and very accommodating for check-in. Both the queen sized bed and the sofa pull out were comfy and well appreciated after a long day (and sometimes night) in the city. Navigating the subway was easy but I highly recommend flying to and from LaGuardia for easier (and cheaper) travel if you prefer to Uber or Lyft. There were great restaurants and cafes in walking distance like Harlem Shake and Lenox Coffee Roaster. As a host, Jim was kind and hospitable. He even went so far as to make us soup our first night in. Be sure to ask about the art in the home for very interesting conversation! All in all 5/5, would return again

Thanks to Jim giving very accurate info for my arrival and going around. The room is nice, although there is no lock but it's safe. The neighborhood is lined up with iconic brownstone row houses and leafy quite streets. A good choice for stay to experience Harlem district, Manhatten and NYC!

Response from Jim:
Tammy, I'm very sorry for the miscommunication. The bed/sitting room door has a lock and can be locked from the inside if desired.

Jim and Yulia were hosts of the best kind - warm, inviting and knowledgable. You'll find pieces of art surrounding this lovely space making you feel inspired in a way only a city like NYC can. Jim truly has a special way of making you feel confident about your time in Harlem. The space itself is tremendously clean with a bright bathroom to boot. Two beds, high ceilings and plenty of space to organize your things makes this second floor walk up a happy place to come home to. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to visit NYC - just a 30 minute train ride to lower Manhattan and a 20 minute stroll to Harlem's iconic jazz clubs. I miss this place already!
